Tilson's negative tactics cost us 2 points, fact!

Forest did not have the wind behind them in the 2nd half, the wind was blowing towards the south bank. This is why in the first 15 minutes of the half, their keeper did not kick the ball long, but played it short to the full back, who lumped it forward into the channels, where the wind held it up and Tyson used his pace to run on to it.

In the first half these balls would of gone through to the keeper, but the wind made it easier for Forest to cut out the midfield, play territotial football, and put us under pressure.

It was an obvious tactic from Calderwood and it worked. We were fortunate that the wind dropped in the last 20 minutes, which is why we came back into it a lot more, as it negated Forest's 2nd half tactics.

At the end of the day I would have taken a point before the game, and even though we probably did enough to win, we are still only 3 points off 4th place, and with Forest playing Walsall on Saturday, one of them is going to drop points.

Nothing to do with Tilson's tactics, the reason why Forest got into the game in the second half was because they've got people like Tyson on the bench and we haven't. It was still a cracking match and we're still in the play-off places.

Nail on head.

No good screaming for Tilly to make a change when he's down to 16 players and no strikers on the bench.

i don't agree that it was all tillys fault we didn't win last night, i would deffinately say it was 2 points lost though and with most results going our way i was very dissappointed we didn't take advantage of this.

i'm sticking with what i have always said the reason we lost last night was francis wasn't interested. yes we can use excuse after excuse that black didn't help but francis has a mouth, he can use it can't he but i was watching him very closely and didn't say a thing and also didn't bother marking there left winger.

i said to my mate there gunna score down the left any minute because francis can't be arsed. such a shame if you ask me because francis is such a good player and is good going forward but way to casual for me and this lets him down so badly. his positioning was very poor last night but what gets me is why clarke or barrett weren't screaming at him to simply mark his man. i find it very hard to believe why they can't stop the danger before it happens, it was so obvious what was going to happen.

I'm happy with the point last night. Slightly disappointed that we couldn't hold on for all three, but when the opposition can bring the likes of Tyson on for Agogo you have to be happy with a point.

Tyson changed the game massively last night. The most difficult thing to defend against is pure pace, if your guy is quicker than you, you are going to struggle.

To be fair, both sides had chances to win the game, especially the Gower effort towards the end.

More positives than negatives came out of the game. I think the Clarke and Barrett partnership is improving all the time. Francis is looking a class act at right back. Mulgrew has improved from earlier games. Gowers form over the last two games has been better. Moussa looked good, Bailey was one of the best players on the pitch again. Black was good going forward, especially in the first half. Walker looks to be the real deal upfront, and Robson-Kanu was much improved on saturday. Great finish.

Lets look on the positives, we have a winnable game at Huddersfield on saturday, but I'd take a point now. We are in the play offs, and have a decent chance of staying there, hopefully players like Barnard and Revell will be fit again before the season is out and Macca is back from his suspension.

Much as I diske him Calderwood reacted to the situation at half time and made decisive changes. This opened up our right hand side as Black is in no way a the same defensively as Gower and Francis always seemed to have 2 players bearing down on him while Tommy trotted back from the 1/2 way line. As soon as Grant came on this supply route dried up. Difference n the 2 managers was Calderwood was decisive Tilson must have sen the problems but waited to see "if it sorted itself out" Thought Black was the weak link last night great going forward but naive in defence

Was it negative or keeping what you had and avoiding ending with no points for the nights work, Tilson is a clever and astute manager well respected by other L1 managers, keep faith with him and he will in the next 2 seasons provide you with a promoting winning team.

Cheers Les - I presume you're a Donny Rovers fan? Seeing how Bournemouth and Donny are, respectively, getting on this season goes to show that you've also got one of the league's better managers in Sean O'Driscoll...

As for those posting at the beginning of the thread:

* Wiggy likes a good moan, it's catharsis for her. I'm not sure she has it in for Tilson really, though. She moans about him, but has never once made a decent suggestion as to whom we might bring in as a replacement.

* Tilson must have run over Tony the Kray's cat, because TTK has had it in for Tilly & Ron ever since SUFC first donned silver shirts at Cardiff...

:thump:

* Apart from those two, I'd put Tilson's approval ratings at somewhere north of 90%. There are few fans daft enough to be unhappy at being in the play-off zone the season after a relegation and the season after selling your talismanic striker.

Tilly's not perfect - his frequent unwillingness to make substitutions when things aren't working being one of his bigger weaknesses - but then I'm not sure that he's ever said that he is perfect, or that he's ever said that he'd stop learning.

But, given how many sh*te managers we could have instead of him, it does occasionally surprise me how the likes of wiggy and TTK keep having it in for him.

Bottom line: we play good football, we're bringing through our youth players, we score lots of goals (we concede a few too many, sadly, but we're working on that), we appear to be roughly on budget, and we're 6th in the table.

Other than providing us with the moon on a stick, I'd say that Tilson is doing pretty well.

Hey ho,

Matt

You are happy with that ? I say bring back Alvin Martin cos under him we would be in the Premier by now. ;)

A Few inches makes the difference

You've got to admit though, he's ****e at interviews.

And we had the moral victory. The length of their keepers finger tip kept us from a win, or one/two more revoutions of the ball he partially stopped from David Gowers effort.

If we have to play them again, this season, the feeling I have is that we have a more than equal prospect of beating them and the players will know that, which is very important.

Tilly will have learned a lot from this game [how to unlock their defence and other weaknesses in their set-up] to use for his tactics in possible play-off games.

It's a no brainer to me. The openining thread questioner does not seem to have an appreciation about how our team have achieved results during Tilly's long period of management [is it 7th longest serving in the four english divisions].

Football [no all ball games] can be very much about playing to percentages/best advantage.

A basic understanding of tactical "nonse" is lacking somewhere - and IMO it is not Mr Tilson who is lacking in that respect.

Progress ?

Slow but steady progress in the right direction, is far better than boom & bust. Do you not think we are not progressing year on year ?

IMO we have the best all-round team for a long long time. Fewer, if any weak links across the whole park ?

3rd Thought

Totally outplayed em' first half , 1 nil up and what does our negative manager instruct to the players, defend your lead for 45 mins. Impossible to do against a decent team, and at 1-1 we attack again. Radio interview afterwards and he is so happy with 1 point and keeps saying well it was Nottingham Forest and we are down to the bare bones. Yes we are because of You and your poor management, pathetic attitude from our man in charge.

Strategy, Wiggy. The time to take a higher stake gamble has not yet arrived.

Have patience, it is equally important that supporters keep a cool head as the team not loosing it themselves.

Your comments are counter-productive and display a basic lack of appreciation or understanding of the concept of football management tactics played over a 46 match season.
