Got a nice connection at pitsea this evening and sailed home from benfleet. Traffic going the other way down the high road was appalling though.

I drove to Norfolk today and it was preferable dirving 175 miles than going through sadlers.

Fingers crossed they get the underpass done for next week.

I found the solution. Went to the cinema after work. When I came out the journey was fine. Sorted :)

Well, interesting stuff. Left Benfleet about 4.15 to drive to Brentwood, heading north via the A130, and whadyaknow but there is a new bridgey type road that goes over the new underpass! Excitement! Still plenty to be done on that stretch but nothing like what still needs to happen on the A13. Stayed in Brentwood till nearly 8, and queues still back to the roundabout from Tarpots when we got there.

Tonight shall be interesting. Match night and no way of getting to Southend without hitting massive delays.

WIth hindsight I could have got a train in today and probably should have.

Today's Echo says that the A13 between Sadlers and Pitsea on both sides of the road will be closed all next weekend.

If you turn off of Sadlers towards the A127 there is now a "raised road" over the underpass carrying the "sweep" road from the A13 direct. Next weekend is going to be carnage, my other half isn't happy as he is working all next weekend....going up to London at 6 a.m. will probably not be too bad but coming home won't be fun!

Ok, drove past this morning and it looked like there was a lane open through the underpass. Didnt see any cars going through there, but it did look open.

We shall see if this reduces the queue to the roundabout this evening.

Update from the SABRE forum which is an entire forum for moaning about roads. Heaven.

Update
Scheme still on programme, opening Spring 2012.
Three remaining bridges, Sadlers Farm Bridge, Sadlers Hall
Bridge and Church Road Bridge, all programmed to open March/ April 2012.

The completion dates for the remaining elements of the programme are as follows:

Church Road Bridge open – 20th April
Northbound Strategic Link open (one lane only) – 21st April
Deconstruction of Old Church Road Bridge – 28th/29th April
Sadlers Farm Bridge open (A13 leading to the Sadlers Farm Roundabout taking traffic over the strategic link) – 5th May
Southbound Strategic Link open – 31st May
Sadlers Farm Roundabout (signals operational) – 31st May.
There will be some final work taking place once the scheme is open to traffic, with all work completed and away from the network by 27th June.

So going by that the Benfleet/Canvey traffic will be going over the underpass in two weeks time.

Now Im no expert, but the slip road to take all this traffic seems to be only one lane. Does that sound a bit inadequate for the amount of cars ?
