The statement was that Paterson was a goalscorer... The lad has two goals in 27 appearances for us which would suggest otherwise. The evidence actually suggests that Barker is a good defender, because we concede far less goals with him in the team than we do without him.

Gary Hooper's goal scoring record whilst with us is slightly worse than Paterson's (below taken from Wikipedia) - sometimes, just sometimes the evidence is wrong and other things need to be taken in to consideration - such as opinions

2006–2008Southend United32(2)
2007 Leyton Orient (loan)4(2)
2008 Hereford United (loan)19(11)
2008–2010Scunthorpe United80(43)
2010–Celtic14(11)

I think there's a difference with Hooper, in that his record at Hereford and Orient had shown him to be a goalscorer. Plus a fair few of his starts for us were on the wing and when he was up front it was as the supporting striker in the team to feed Eastwood or Clarke. Paterson hasn't shown himself to be a goalscorer anywhere (because he hasn't had those loans) and has been meant to be the goalscoring striker when he's been in the team.

It's a fair point, although I always thought (and said on here) that Hooper was a quality player. He wasn't suited to the role that Tilson gave him.

Having scanned the thread, I think YB's observations about Pato's mental fragility are pretty accurate and possibly the biggest detractor for him playing for us. I like Paterson, he has an intelligent footballing brain but unfortunately, certainly last season didn't seem to have the strength to match it. This season I've thought he looked much improved and although he still rarely challenged for a ball, was quick and intelligent enough to be able to get in the right place at the right time. Those who saw him at Barnet in the cup match earlier this season would, I think, agree that the Paterson we saw that night was hugely different to what we'd seen last season, and after that performance I fully expected him to be given a run in the team. For whatever reason, that didn't happen. I believe that Southampton have only just finished paying for Barney so maybe there was something within that that prevented us from selling him on in the summer because I do believe that Sturrock really doesn't want any Tilson formers here. Grant may be an exception, I don't know, but none of the others were wanted, they were all on too high wages......again, not sure about Herd, I just don't think he fits!

As I said earlier in this thread, I wish Pato well, I don't think he did anything wrong as such here, he was certainly banging in penalties with confidence not so long ago but having a manager who appears to have little faith in you won't have done the lad any good and if he can go to Stockport and start finding the net again and enjoying his football then I'm sure he will, indeed, be another to improve after moving on.

Patterson wasn't that bad on Fifa 11 as I was leading Southend Utd to wins over Barca, Real and AC Milan online World Cup game, in a bid to be World Champion :p

Bloody hell, 2 shots in the first 5 minutes! In the space of 2 minutes....
:stunned:

I alway thought Mark Patterson was a panic loan signing by Whelan. He was clapped out by the time he joined us and had pointy ears like a rodent.

I wonder if Luggy will give him another chance if this loan spell works out well. His comments from earlier this week sounded rather like he was burning his bridges with him though...

I'd hope he'd be given a chance if it goes well, if he doesn't then he definitely is not rated at all!

A player who deserved more of a chance. I hate to bring it up but i'm sorry, if Sturrock wasn't our manager or managing another team in the FL Blair would not be playing in the League, we signed him from Truro (who?) for crying out loud. Yes, he tries hard and is tidy enough but a striker needs to score goals, out of his 5 goals this season the only 2 that were actually confident good finishes were against Burton and Rotherham away. Hereford came off his arse, Stockport his shin and Rotherham at home came of his shoulder. He is not FL quality, Paterson is young and i don't care if he can't play with Corr, in my opinion he would have scored more goals than Corr this season if given enough games and played with a decent partner. Again, just my opinion but i hope he does do well at Stockport, just like Spencer at Lincoln and show Sturrock that he was wrong.

Oohhpp.

Blair isn't a goal scorer and has scored 5.
Barry has scored 12.

Matt has scored 1 for Stockport.

Slagging off Blair and Barry because Matt has scored 1...really?

Wait Paterson scored? We shouldn't have let him go .... blah blah .... next Hooper/Kightly .... blah blah ... could play in the Premiership .... blah blah .... it's all Ron's fault .... blah blah ..... :zzzzz:

Didn't James Walker score on his debut ....
