Just watched his goal - absolute belter!

Oh, he's too lightweight for L12!

League 12? No wonder why he scored .....

Too lightweight is about his strength, are you saying that you can look at him and say that he can hold players off?

Hahahah, lol, I was pretty ****ed when I wrote it!!

Just want to re-iterate, too lightweight for L1, for those Pato fans!

A few comments from County Heaven:

'tell you what, going off that performance you wonder why he isn't getting a game at Southend, astonishing display of guts and determination, great touch too. The Southend lads on here were right, very impressed'

'My brother in law is a season ticket holder at Roots hall - and he has always rated him and wondered why Sturrock wouldn't play him - maybe its something to do with having his son in the team!'

'I agree Gazza, how he's not been playing at Southend is a mystery! He fought for everything, chased everything, looked slow but he was actually quite fast.. Took his goal extremely well, turned the defender easily and unleashed a 'lazy' screamer, he didnt seem to put that much effort into it, but i'm not complaining'

'not for the whole of his time at Southend Simon. According to some Southend fans it seems that even when he's been fit to play, Sturrock wants to play his son instead'

'he runs a bit spesh though doesnt he lol. i mean come on, what are his hands doing lol
few more performances from him like that needed thou!! great way to introduce yaself to us!'

'quick feet...... nice touch.... nice shot........ good goal..... =
Quality.......
and to top it of he had 6 stitches..... ... the other guy went of with concussion ...whimp!'

And he doesn't even get on the bench for our Ressies in the Essex Cup........................

Morning all, can see that the usual suspects just can't give praise where it is due!

Delighted for Matt, to be pushed out of Southend (and it is all financial allegedly he has still not been paid this year) to go to bottom of the league Stockport (he had other offers) and to pull of a display that some Stockport fans believe was the best for years from a striker is testiment to the lad. Have watched his goal and yes, a corker!

I have always been disappointed that he was never given a run of games, I still believe that is all he needed - but those who know better will always disagree.

Hope he comes back with a few goals under his belt, but don't believe he'll ever want to pull on a Southend shirt again after the way he has been treated.

.........it's all about the money - disgraceful way to be treated but do we expect anything better. I wonder if Luggy was pressured in to not picking him in the hope of forcing him out.

To be slightly fair, whilst I don't doubt that his wages were a major reason behind wanting Paterson out the door, by all accounts he didn't shine in the league games he got (this season or last), he's had several games for the reserves this season without putting himself in contention the way that Asante did last week and he doesn't fit the template of what Paul Sturrock looks for in a striker.

From the Telegraph:

"Stockport County’s most recent acquisition endured three fluffed chances that induced derision in the stands, but his dramatic long-range goal secured the lead and earned redemption from home fans"

Some of the ones he's played this season (ahead of Paterson) wouldn't fit the template of what anyone looks for in a striker.

That sounds more like the Paterson I've seen play for Southend, that said the same could be said of Corr hopefully Paterson can improve his accuracy because he won't score wonder goals every week

Isn't it strange that some of us only look for the positives in people, here's from a Stockport fan:

there were good signs they can be a good pairing but Paterson made the difference for me. I think his bravery and determination carried the team through, especially having seen a goal (rightly as it turned out) disallowed and being denied a stonewall penalty. Normally stuff like that would put paid to any fight we have in us, but Matt was superb throughout!

What chance do you think we'd have of extending his loan spell? If this first game is anything to go by then our chances of staying up will be greatly increased. Never seen such an impressive debut since a lad named Peter Duffield rattled in a brace at Deepdale in 92/93. Smashing player from what I saw, he gave us such a shot in the arm the way he braved the cut head to keep getting up and fighting for the cause.

Paterson voted into the L2 Team of the Week, but surely he's too lightweight..........................................

More twitterings - the impression I got this morning was that Paterson is back in Essex following Stockport's relegation. I wonder if he might get a run out on Saturday.
