Post-Match Thread and Ratings York City 3-0 Southend United

Let’s face it, these players ARE good enough in a tin pot League but the manager is incapable of using them to the best of their ability. It’s getting boring now as same every week….he has to play Miley or Husin or both…far better players on the bench to try to scoreor assist for a goal but amazingly he will not do it. Oh please get rid of him and let’s go forward and enjoy the sleeping giant in this League…,he really gets more stubborn and negative every week and enough is enough.

We have had one decent winning performance this season 4-2 at Solihull Moors

Appiah-Forson, Moncur, Pepple and Bonne started that game. Trouble is that same side started 3 days later at Wealdstone and were awful

Pepple and Bonne have started together in only 4 League games none of which we have lost, and the Charlton cup tie.

I’d base that on Crowther’s lack of form. Crowther isn’t the answer right now. If Golding can’t step straight into the first team why bring him in? He’s played at this level. It’s puzzling.
Would you play gubbins ahead of golding? Gubbins has played at higher level.

I guess he was brought in as cover when Gubbins was injured - although it was a few weeks after Gubbins was first out. Is the loan only for a month?

Hey, if it works I’ll be all for it.
Me too. All this bollox about building a brand of football ****es me off, at the end of the day if we win matches I couldn’t care less about the tactics. Many slagged Sturrock for being direct, but he worked miracles overachieving in the circumstances.

We overplay horribly under Maher, why make 1 risky forward pass when 6 safe sideways/backwards ones will do. Hence more forward thinking players like KAF are sidelined. We’re so scared ****less of losing possession that no one takes a risk.

This has to change, after losing Kensdale our current defenders aren’t reliable enough to play out from the back, so let’s go a bit more direct. And please let’s instruct the wide players to get early crosses in rather than fannying around and allowing defenders to regroup. If Maher’s too stubborn to adapt I feel he’s doomed to fail.

Every solution over nearly 200 posts.
The players are good enough; they're not; it's Maher's fault; it's the embargo's; it's the tactics; it's the skill level, and so on.
So, question: does KM deliberately want to lose?
Does he train this crew all week, and not discuss with the other two how best to get results?
Does he daily assess what's in front of him?
By playing 'crab' football is he deliberately trying to avoid putting the ball in the onion bag?
My guess, is he knows what he's got don't have many options.
I wasn't there today, but I was last week.
The passing and control was for the most part woeful.
I could single out individuals, but this squad is just not capable of give-an-go at speed. There is for the first time in a while, no aerial threat back and front.
OK, let's surmise KM gone. What is any new man going to do with what's in front of him?

Gubbins is left sided so no. I just think Crowther needs to have a rest personally. Golding is a short term loan but think he expected to play. I’d guess Maher is looking at a permanent signing at CB (hope so).

Kev's loyalty to his players could ultimately prove to be his undoing.

Completely agree....if Golding isn't at least in the squad ahead of Crowther on Boxing Day then I have serious doubts about what Kev is seeing out there on the pitch.
On another note, I thought Bim was pretty poor today and was well marshalled by the York centre halves. For once I thought Walker looked the better of the two.
Not sure whether Bim's shoulder was still troubling him? If it was, then it makes the decision not to start either Bonne or Kendall even more baffling.
Spot on mate as always. Good to see you albeit briefly

Halifax? Boston?

I think with Harris it is different. He lives in the area, supports the club and has AB as his assistant manager as well.Robins has no affiliation with the club and is not going to step down to National League
Or Bomber might think at this level a big club, big expectations, not big budget, average players, I would rather an easy life rather than be the next manager in the cross hairs…

People saying KM deserves next season. Question - what makes you actually think it will be any better. We have been out of an embargo for 6 months now or so and are going backwards month on month. We don’t look like scoring, we don’t create anything, we look like conceding from every set piece and we are playing players that are so far out of form it is mindblowing. We will no doubt sign players that have played for Dagenham in the past and think we will move forward which ain’t gonna happen. If we want to get out of this **** league we need to spend significant amounts of money to get quality players in not fanny around with adding one or two players with no experience of winning anything. You need a good blend of experience and younger players and have more than one game plan! We are an embarrassment at the moment and that is summed up the fact we will likely struggle against ebbsfleet and Braintree in the coming week or so.
Under Maher we have had long unbeaten runs but also some long periods without a win (I feel like we went into double figures a couple of years ago).

The difference with next season is that, with Ron gone, we become a big player in the transfer market at this level. Agents start taking calls from 01702 numbers again when they know their client will be receiving their wages on time.

If we can get 6 top quality players in, we can build something very quickly.

This is all my opinion.

Is the squad good enough? Charlton FA Cup

Are we good to watch? 🤣 (occasionally see above)

Are the tactics inspiring? NO

Are the substitutions right & at the right time? Rarely

Is the team selection based on who's in form? It doesn't appear so.

Are we good enough to play out from the back? NO

Do we have a plan B when things aren't going right? NO

Have we made good signings this season? Mixed view

Will we get out of this awful league playing this style of football? NO chance

Do we have other coaching options? YES

This isn't necessarily a dig at Kev, he is a legend & always will be but IMO he is a fire fighter as he proved last season, will he move us forward & get us out of this league? I honestly and sadly can't see it.

This is arguably the hardest watch and most negative SUFC team I have seen in 55 years of watching the Blues and I am sick of all the excuses week after week. I would so love to be proved wrong but I can't see us moving forward with this style of tippy tappy sideways and backwards football with out of form favourites often being selected ahead of players who show form and want it more and are maybe capable of mixing things up.

We appear to approach each game expecting the worst so minimise collateral damage rather than let's go all out and take risks and at least make us an exciting watch?
