Post-Match Thread and Ratings York City 3-0 Southend United

All the comments about our midfield players, we don't have the luxury of a reserve team league to play them in to regain fitness, so the only way the likes of Miley are going to get fully fit is to play them. On paper, that starting midfield on Saturday, should have been strong...I don't know why we seemed to bypass them so much from defence.
Disagree about Saturday. Miley and Morton have never worked well together. You have to play one or the other, and at the moment that is Morton.

If we're playing 5 at the back, we only need one holding, with 2 attacking midfielders (Coker, Husin, KAF or Moncur).

Don't think anyone who saw (or even listened to to BBC Essex's commentary)could have failed to have noticed the sheer ineptitude of SUFC's performance.Presumably normal service will continue after a couple of relatively easy fixtures against bottom club Ebbsfleet and fellow relegation struggler's Braintree,Time for a shake up COSU.

No such thing as an easy fixture.

I'm expecting tough games at both. We are still a scalp for both of those sides and they won't just lay down.

Lose to ebbsfleet and or Braintree and serious questions will be asked.

Both teams need points to try and stay in the top tier of non league and the gate receipts it brings. They will see our fragility in the air whilst defending and target it accordingly to get the goals needed, as Maidenhead (assumed easy fixture) did not so long back.

Both Braintree and Ebbsfleet are on bad runs, I don’t think Ebbsfleet have won since September. They’ve lost the last two 4-1. Both games we should be winning but since when was that ever a guarantee with SUFC. We need to be on our game and hopefully, we can play some decent football and lift the doom & gloom a bit. Then people may forget we lost to York.

To gain any points away to the league leaders would have been a bonus so no surprise there. What is surprising is the manner in which we conceded the three goals - very poor defending and very disappointing. Really unacceptable to allow virtually the same thing to happen thrice. Jeez....

Onward to the next two fixtures..... why does the memory of Oxford City gnaw at me? Come on You Shrimpers!!

Trouble is on our side there will be a lot of tension in the air, because of our position of late and poor performances at Home. Much will depend on whether our players can overcome that atmosphere and play with confidence or at least full out effort

They will also smell our passionate fans apprehension and the fear even worse of the reaction if we are putting in a poor performance or go one down to a corner !!

Will Kev be bold in giving Golding and Kendall more time to make a mark, or will we be witnesses Bonnes 20th appearance and failure to score

I've waited until today to do my post-match comments as I stayed in York for the weekend and didn't want to ruin it 🤣

Firstly, I actually thought Maher chose an 'attacking' lineup, which contributed hugely to our downfall. We went into the game with 2 very attacking fullbacks, which meant the back 3 were constantly exposed down the flanks.

Kev does deserve criticism for taking so long to push the backline back 10 yards. It took him at least 20 mins to realise that our line was too high and they kept playing the ball over the top and got in behind numerous times. York should have been a few goals up. Once we dropped back, that didn't get in that often.

Bridge was an absolute passenger and until a Wes replacement comes in, there is no point in him playing. You could see that Gus and Pepple weren't 100% fit at all.

The subs were really baffling. We were chasing the game and we bring on Bonne who can't score and Husin who never scores or assists. How were we going to get back into the game?

Overall we were well beaten by a far superior side and I'm not judging Kev on this game alone as I never really expected to get much from the game. However, Kev does need to start taking account for some of the decisions he's making and certain players do need to be dropped. Two very key matches coming up and the negativity will be heard by the majority if we don't win them.
