The people who've been made ill? They are higher bands than me so paid quite well no doubt, but that is far from any kind of reason to turn people into mental and/or physical wrecks.

It's the other way round isn't it? If they do the work that turns people into mental and/or physical wrecks then they should be well paid for it.

Each to their own - some people are workaholics and thrive on stress and pressure. But my mate who had a breakdown was hardly in the company of a Head of Industry or a politician - he is a middle manager with three kids who's manager piled so much work on his shoulders with unachievable timescales he just gave up one day.

House prices in Essex!

They are a ****ing joke, for the money I can afford I'm looking at a dodgy to average looking place but if I look up north I can get a mansion for my money! I don't want to live up north. :'(

Friends of ours were looking to move to Lincolnshire. They found a house with a few acres of land, stables, an indoor swimming pool and a tennis court...for £500,000. (They didn't move for some reason.)

Funny you say that it was Lincolnshire I was looking at the houses that are like mansions for very little.

Good! The North is great and it's a well kept secret which means house prices are low and the towns and cities aren't full of southern softies (just me).

It is insane, even renting is bananas. I feel for my nephews & nieces in Romford.

I'm only 30 mins out of London and the prices are much more reasonable.

Amazing how the further from London you go the better house prices are. For example I looked at living near Thetford and found this: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-30355992.html?premiumA=true

When you compare it to this in braintree for the same money:

Hopefully the one in Thetford doesn't include the red sofas.

At least the one in Braintree will be a short walk to football for someone.

Personally would prefer the Braintree one for its character! If you're seriously looking Ricey then give us a shout, I'll see what we've got on our books that might be possible :winking:

Oop North can be expensive, depends where you're looking. Parts of William Hague's constituency, Richmond, for instance, compare very well with down here.

I walked the dog over Victory Sports Ground this morning and saw that the rugby posts have been broken down, also saw that the goal posts at the school on Burr Hill Chase (for troubled kids?) had it's goal posts broken.
And on the path alongside the Prittlebrook two youths threw their sweat wrappings into the stream and when challenged replied "there ain't no bin here is there" and "we're from London, like, and we all throw out stuff anywhere don't we".
All very disenchanting.

That was not a walk but more of a route march, lucky dog.

Have you been to Thetford though????
You're right about the prices though- it does seem to be getting out of hand- and that last stamp duty change seems to have pushed prices higher still!
(And if you are seriously looking around braintree, ask me and I'll tell you which bits to avoid!)

QI. I love the show to bits but my god i want too kill Sue Perkins. I hate her and she makes my blood boil. Not funny, just annoying.

and breathe.....

I can think of few people for whom the gap between actual talent and amount of airtime on television is wider. Gregg Wallace perhaps?
