Transfer news
SOUTHEND United are in contract talks with midfielder Rafferty Pedder, Echosport understands.

The former Queens Park Rangers youngster has lined up against Gillingham and Ballyfermot United during pre-season.

And it is now understood the Shrimpers are keen to keep the 22-year-old at Roots Hall on a more permanent basis.

Pedder, who spent time on loan at Oxford City last season, missed Blues' final friendly at Chelmsford City on Saturday to avoid aggravating a hamstring issue he suffered towards the end of last season.

But he could now look to kick-start his career with the Shrimpers who are currently short of midfield options with Noor Husin still working his way back to full fitness after having an operation on his shin.

Must be a good sign if Chris is tweeting about it 🙏

Absolutely no inside knowledge but it feels like Pedder and a GK will be done before the weekend and we may wait until the last minute to sort the striker situation. I think we may wait for Tshimanga right up until it's not possible and then reassess from there. We need 4 strikers for the entire season but we don't need 4 strikers as urgently this minute. We can make do with 3 + Wood for the time being.

Just found this interesting writeup on Pedder.
Thanks Blues4LifeDan for this fascinating commentary on Rafferty Pedder. Judging by Kevin Maher's comments, he seemed to believe that Pedder has raw talent (Maher referred to Pedder's 'spark') that with application, hard work and experience in the National League could see the player progress into an outstanding, attacking midfielder.

Darragh Macanothy’s latest pod talks about Tshimanga. Says two top national league clubs are in for him but he doesn’t want to go to them. Says a league two club are in for him but are taking the **** with the offer.

Feels like we’ll have to wait this out until after the EFL window closes at the end of August and then might have to accept a recall clause if someone wants him in January.

He has two years to run. Yes if someone came in with a significant fee- otherwise loaning for a year, a chunk of his wages covered- he goes somewhere and bangs in 20+ then that there best chance of getting close to recouping a meaningful slice of what they paid?

Who knows…
True, with two years left his deal it makes the situation different. I guess his wages (or chunk of) may be out of our budget.

I've only seen pedder in the gills game, looked tenacious, wanted to go forward with the ball and get into the opposition box, aspects we need from a midfielder. Hope he turns out to be a good un
He was the same against Ballyfermot, I think he’ll fit in well
