The reality is some signings will pan out well, whether an experienced older player coming down from a higher level I.e. Goater, MAF. Some won’t I.e. Kightly, Ridgewell, Ricketts.
Same from similar level and lower league. For every gem like Gower, Eastwood and Leonard we’ve had 10s of dross, too many to count. What we do have though is a wise team led by John Still doing ‘DD’ (can we still say that phrase 😉) that are as good as any for the level and budget we are working on. That and the fresh approach under new leadership is very encouraging

Moncur is way better than National league or indeed league 2 in terms of his skill, but there is a problem there with his fitness and attitude, get those 2 right and you have a player with undoubted talent. He still has a year left on his deal at Orient, they are said to have paid around £200K for his services and he has been rumoured to be on £4K a week their highest paid player. It sounds like he is not part of their plans for next season so may well leave them, there were rumours he was coming to Colchester in a possible exchange for Noah Chilvers, with Moncur plus a cash settlement paying for the compensation fee we would be due for his training and development coming our way but nothing has happened as yet. Some of our fans would be pleased others don't want him back and say he is not worth the risk, we shall see.
Is still out of contract, wonder if he is someone to keep an eye. Would prefer him to Moncur imo

Not sure we could afford Moncur’s wage. I believe he’s on around 5k a week at Orient
Correct, we couldn't.

Just like we probably couldn't afford Tshimanga's wage either.

But, if the parent club are willing to loan us the player and contribute a % of his wage, suddenly it could become viable...

The parent club shift a player off their books that is surplus and save themselves say £1000pw in the process, that they can put towards something else. We get a player that would otherwise be out of range.

Happy player (he's still getting his full wage) happy clubs (one has saved a few quid, the other has got an EFL player on loan that doesn't break wage structure) Everyone is a winner...

Plus if a loanee gets injured, we just send them back for treatment.

Yeah. If the parent club screwed up by too high wages or whatever then they claw back what they can. Similarly when the contract runs out he won’t earn £5k a week in his next contract. He gets what he can

No chance with Noah Chilvers. He wants more money and to move to a higher club than Colchester. He's ambitious. Colchester are trying to do a deal with him, but it seems he's made up his mind. Also if he goes, Colchester will be due compensation as he's under 24.

Thing with Moncur, who elsewhere is rumoured to be on 4K a week, is wherever he goes next aren’t going to pay anywhere near that. And his age goes against a fee too for that matter. So it is potentially realistic along the lines you describe.

The one thing I would say is whilst we may think £1k a week is a reasonable contribution at our level, what other clubs paying in the same league means expectations of the loaning club are likely very different- we likely have the same problem with Tshimanga. Fear both clubs will be expecting nearer 2k a week- and hence the slow progress perhaps

I think, as we’re non league we wouldn’t have to pay compensation.

Yeah surprised he hasn’t been signed by a league one club yet. Think it’s a bit odd. Heard Orient were heavily interested tbf
