I’m somewhat confused at this point as to what we are doing exactly in terms of recruitment. It’s been no secret that we’ve needed more bodies for a good few weeks now and now that we’ve got injuries and suspensions to contend with, we still sit on our hands and seemingly do nothing. I’m not buying this rubbish that there isn’t anyone out there available either, Aldershot have today signed a talented defender on loan from Bristol Rovers, Dan Ellison who impressed last season for Chippenham before signing for Rovers. He’d have fitted the age criteria as well but obviously not one who was on our radar.

To be fair, we don’t know he wasn’t on our radar. He’s only 19 and has some NLS appearances for Chippenham (near Bristol) under his belt. You can imagine cries of being underwhelmed if we’d brought him in. He may well not have wanted to travel this far either - he might still live at home and Aldershot is a lot more commutable.

All we can say is that the club keep their cards close to their chest regarding player fitness and transfers, so trying to read the tea leaves is probably a fruitless exercise. We have to be patient and trust the people in charge - it’s the least they deserve with their track record.

Perhaps we aren’t sitting on our hands.. perhaps we are talking to x amount of players/clubs on a daily basis.. it’s a little strange that nothing is coming of it though don’t you think?

I wasn’t advocating for him specifically to be signed but was merely pointing out that deals are happening between league and non league clubs which make sense.. it’s just frustrating that we don’t seem to be making many moves at the moment given how incredibly thin our squad is.

I don't think it's strange, no. I believe we're being run sensibly and sticking to a budget and want to recruit well. At this stage of the season it isn't easy to sign players now attached without throwing silly money at transfer targets.

I get that and agree, I wouldn’t want us to start handing out contracts to players who see us as a pay day or as if they are doing us a favour.. that said though, don’t you think we are approaching “panic stations” given the size of our squad and an ever growing list of unavailable players?

We've been worse situations last season and didn't panic, so no panic stations imminent from the club, I would think. Fans might start panicking though. Some might be already.

Clubs have to agree to loaning players out.....we can't just pluck the ones we want.

Also the club loaning the player will probably have the stipulation of playing time being guaranteed...something kev doesn't like.

Lots of good players not getting games with league one and two clubs, yes there are but they are also part of the clubs squads which mean many might be required as the season hits winter, injuries and fatigue will build up so clubs won't be looking to loan them out. Of course there are many reasons why they are not playing, possibly not more than backup players, maybe injured, unwell or just bad apples that are still under contract etc. Others may be available but don't suit your style of play or simply don't want to drop down the leagues and of course many will be on decent salaries, most of which the club will want to be covered in a loan agreement. I am sure your club is pursuing all avenues but won't act recklesly just to get a few more players in the building.
