Transfer News and Gossip Transfer Rumours Thread 2024/25 - Time to Cook 👨‍🍳

Transfer news
Unfortunately Effiong is probably about the level we can get and afford this time in the season. Will do a job if we can keep him fit etc. unfortunately not a long term cards replacement due to age

This is unfortunately the new reality of where we are. We cannot compete with the likes of FGR’s and Barnet, something I never thought I would say a few years ago.

You say that but ignoring the team names I don't think we have been able to compete with any team with financial backing willing to drop £100k+ on a player for 10-15 years.

Do we have realistic targets. We’re hearing Effiong the latest rumour. Adarkwa & McCallum from Wealdstone & Eastleigh have been mentioned after we lost out on Tshimanga. Doubt McCallum is realistic and Adarkwa is injured. Both would require fees too.

So to the free agents or lower league. Are Bonne or others still in the conversation?

Only 15 signings in the league since 1st September, Mostly loans to January from the likes of Ipswich, Millwall, C Palace, AFC Wimbledon, Oxford Utd and Blackpool. Not exactly high activity. although perhaps not so necessary as the average squad size in the league is 24.3

I put this on X on Thursday

‘There are actually so many free agents that are worth looking at, even on a short term deal;

Macauley Bonne
Mo Eisa
Maxime Biamou
Aramide Oteh
Fejiri Okenabirhie
Saikou Janneh

All of which would be class signings for our level’
Wages.

We simply don't have the budget to sign these types of players to the club.

The loan market will be out best bet, signing a quality player on loan whilst paying either zero or a small percentage of their wages in return of game time

It will take time though for both us and teams to identify who is getting game time and who isn't

Depends how desperate some of them are to play and earn money. Surely they are going to want to earn something rather than nothing.

Even if it was a short term deal

Cant help feeling that its that extra 0.3 that we're lacking right now.

At the moment they are getting no wages so a short term deal to January on lower wages to put yourself in the shop window could be appealing to someone.
