Transfer news
SOUTHEND United are expected to field two trialists in this afternoonā€™s pre-season clash at Great Wakering Rovers.

The Shrimpers are on the look-out for a new goalkeeper following David Martinā€™s move to Ipswich Town.

And it is understood former Colchester United shot-stopper Sam Hornby will line up for Blues at Burroughs Park.

The 29-year-old has also played for Brackley, Kidderminster Harriers, Port Vale, Chester, Bradford City, Fylde and Solihull Moors and has made 115 senior appearances in his career.

Former Southampton defender Zuriel Otseh-Taiwo could also feature for the Shrimpers against Great Wakering.

Otseh-Taiwo can play as a wing-back on both sides of the pitch.

Through their official website, relegated Premier League club Southampton have announced their retained and released list following the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season.

Outside of the current first-team squad, the Saints confirmed that young professional Zuriel Otseh-Taiwo will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract on June 30, 2023.

The Anglo-Nigerian fullback departs Southampton after seven years of service to the club, having joined them as a schoolboy in 2016.
The 20-year-old rose through the ranks before establishing himself in the B team.

He is credited with 25 appearances for the Saints in the U18 Premier League and played in 37 games for the B team in the Premier League 2.

Otseh-Taiwo, who is the cousin of former Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo, is leaving the St Mary's Stadium without making his professional debut.

Now 21 year old

Does anyone reckon it will slow down little with targets now due to the deal still not being completed or continuing as normal to try get another one or two in within the next 2/3 weeks for example ..

Usually there is lots of talk and rumour but there seems to be very little.

I'm guessing there maybe one or two we are considering but the management won't get the green light until takeover.

Here we go (finally)

This list as always is based on rumours circulating on here and the socials. Updated at regular intervals.

šŸ¤ Joe Gubbins: CB: Free Agent. 2 year contract. Free transfer.

šŸ¤ Josh Walker: ST: Burton. 2 year contract. Undisclosed fee.

šŸŸ¢

šŸŸ  Marcus Wyllie: ST: Enfield.

šŸŸ  Kabongo Tshimanga: ST: Peterborough.

šŸŸ  Josh Anifowose: CM: Free Agent.

šŸŸ  Finley Barbrook: CM: Ipswich.

šŸ”“

Feel free to PM me with any rumoured targets that can be included on the list.

Key:

šŸŸ¢ - Likely target

šŸŸ  - Possible target

šŸ”“ - Unlikely target

šŸ”„ - Gaining momentum

šŸ—£ļø - In talks

šŸ¤ - Done deal

Seems remarkably quiet on the rumour front.

Maher says we need 3 or 4 more in and weā€™ve got no likely targets and just 4 possible targets, one of which Iā€™m sure is now off the table as weā€™ve invested in Walker.

Are cards just behind held close to the chest pending the takeover and season tickets being sold?

I imagine COSU will be balancing the books extra carefully atm

Potentially still a long way to go in the takeover so I imagine it is a matter of needs and wants

What KM needs, COSU will get

What KM wants, COSU will probably hold off on until they own it

But saying that, I have no doubt that if real gem of signing comes up, they will sign the paper

Sorry Seldom is this factual information? You say Still along way to go in the take over, or is this just what you think?
Sorry, I meant there could be.

Purely in terms of managing expectations. Ultimately, we don't know how long it could take to get over the line as there is alot of moving parts.

As per usual, there is plenty of work going on in the background, and plenty of players/agents/families etc being spoken to.

However, I would be genuinely shocked if we signed anyone, or at least itā€™s announced publicly, before the takeover happens.

In terms of rumours, the only person who really puts names out is London Shrimper. CP certainly doesnā€™t, not least until itā€™s pretty much a done deal. Donā€™t forget, his story about two players in transfer talks came out the day (or day before I canā€™t remember exactly) we signed Josh Walker & Joe Gubbins.

TRIALIST Zuriel Otseh-Taiwo will feature for Southend United again tonight.

The former Southampton defender lined up against Great Wakering Rovers at the weekend and is now also expected to play against Canvey Island this evening.

Blues boss Kevin Maher said: "He will be with us for the week and then we'll take things from there.

Iā€™m surprised heā€™s being called a defender! Canā€™t remember much defensive work at Wakering but seemed to play as a right winger!!
