They don’t have endless supplies of money…

It’s been coming for a couple of months. Surely it’s better to have the issues ironed out in time for the summer, which is a huge summer for this football club.
I also think they should announce a sequel to Grounhog Day and then just release the original, pretty much where we are right now!

You do realise Barnet continue to invest in their squad and spend £££….whilst we sign no-one and seek “value” ?
Yes I do. I appreciate Barnet have moved on from that day but I do believe a number of our players have regressed substantially since then. That was my point. There are a number of arguments for why that is but it’s not because of embargo’s, budgets, the previous owner or the delays in confirming the takeover. A number of Players going backwards in their development and form has to be the responsibility of the coaches.

My point is that whilst we haven’t improved our squad, those that remain haven’t progressed (whether the same or a bit backwards) whilst Barnet are a different team have improved their squad and spent £££

Kev and COSU are in this together and need to pull their fingers. Out.

This is fine but I think COSU need to come out and articulate where we are. It clear, for whatever reason, we are not yet in a position to make the necessary improvements in the squad, and we seem to be just leaving Kev to take all the flack…

They aren’t trying to re-invent the wheel.

It’s a method used in many different sports, by many different clubs. Obviously, Brentford and Brighton have been highlighted on here numerous times, FGR have a similar method too.
They’re trying to create another level of ‘DD’, I understand that, but is it needed if you trust your scouting team? Are signings are being identified by John Still and questioned because ‘computer says no’? If so, what’s the point of employing him?

You might not know, but if something doesn’t improve soon in terms of performances, fans are going to start turning away. A lower league NL team will not continue to get 6k plus turning up regularly, COSU need to understand that,

If we were in the top 3, we would be averaging 8k = more shirt, burger, beer sales and sponsorship deals etc etc

Surely that balances out spending on a few proven players to get us out.

We're linked with a Brentwood player and we can't get that done!!

I cannot stress, how many people I know that won't go again or renew ST's

COSU are playing a dangerous game with their recruitment and budget model.

Off the field superb but at the end of the day it's an entertainment/result business and this management team and players aren't up to it

Perhaps COSU didn't due their DD on the fanbase, as we're not going to put up with this rubbish, this season has been 3/10 @ best

Just saying that’s not where we signed him from.

On Waldron, I genuinely believe he has the potential to be a threat but he NEEDS game time. It’s a difficult scenario - glad I’m not in charge of the team!
Absolutely- play attacking intent football.

Just look at Moncur!!

We need to rebuild the squad now but if we are planning to leave it to the summer to bring 10 plus signings then next season will be affected as well. It is unlikely that you can bed in a new squad in the summer and expect everyone to be up and running by the first game. It will take time. Something just does not feel right at the moment as there are so many good players out there and we seem unable to do anything.
I’ve always thought that so it’s come as a bit of a
Surprise
Sturrock managed it to some extent but bizarrely York and Barnet have been bringing huge numbers in like 27 and getting in the top 3 and dumping a load and doing again the following season to be in the play offs

Ruthless, but makes some sense when you think about. Bring in 10 players with promise, play them, it doesnt really take long to realise if a player is any good does it....

Keep the 3 good uns, ship out the 7 that dont cut the mustard. Repeat, at some point you'll have a good 11.

And at no point does it take months of DD.

Maybe kevs fondness for a small tight knit squad of nice guys is too outdated a concept.

Just for reference, I don't think Maher is getting flack for not signing anyone as it's not directly in his control

What he is getting flack for is the quality and style of the football, his tactics and the use of the players and assets he does have at his disposal.

Whilst I don’t disagree that part of our strategy is to try and find unearthed diamonds liked the Brentwood striker, I’m not sure we can do that unless we have solid experienced professionals already in roles. For example, our front 4 includes 2 experienced in Bonne and Walker but I’d argue Waldron and Kendall are more in the development category. I think we are going to need any new signing to be less risky (although as we know there is always risk).

There just might be a link between the quality and style of football achievable and the players you have available. And that feeds into tactics. Anyhow if we are dividing responsibility I don’t see COSU getting much flack for the recruitment situation that I think we can at least all agree isn’t helping?

Just in case any COSU members look at this site.

When I lived in Benfleet I was a season ticket holder. Over the years I have moved further and further away from Southend and now live on the Suffolk coast approximately 2 plus hours drive from Rootshall. Work and other commitments meant it was not worth having a season ticket. However, now I draw my state pension I thought 'great, we have new owners and it will all be wonderful. I shall but a season ticket as I have more time to attend'. After leaving home for 9 hours yesterday, sitting in a run down stadium freezing my nuts off in the west stand watching that absolute s hite performance I am now firmly in the Maher out camp and am seriously thinking of not renewing for next season. I can find much more enjoyable things to do on a Saturday.

Now the controversial bit. !!!!!!

I spoke to Justin a while back in the Boar and asked about COSU putting more money in the club. He got a bit uppity and gave a long speech on how much money was already put in the club. At that time I think it was 4 ish million. 'I do not have a hundred million' was one statement. Well, from what I am lead to believe, the members of COSU have a fair few million between them. Surely, if you buy a football club you would expect to spend a few bob in the initial period. My view is that between COSU they could fund the club more initially. I do not know this for sure but 4 to say 6 million in my view is not a lot from 10/11 millionaires. I am feeling that the thought of buying a run down club ruled the heart here. 'make it self sufficient' I hear. Well I am sorry but that does not wash with me. It feels as if COSU have their little plaything and want to own it on the cheap. 'Ooooh I own a football club' Regarding the East stand development I was given the impression that the funding for this would be borrowed.

Thank you so much for saving our club COSU. However, I do think you need to reconsider your plan going forward. Partially upgrade burgers usable toilets and a bright new advertising board wont get us promoted or sustainable.

I probably have not got my point across as I would like to and am inviting a load of vitriol. SO. Bring it on
