There is no denying that we would be in a different position if we could have recruited freely in the summer but the matter of fact that Maher just isn’t able to change the way we play when you can clearly see it is not working, his obsession with 3 centre halves is causing issues today we were crying out for attacking width but as usual he doesn’t change it.

And to go back to the recruitment thing … we have been able to recruit freely for a while now and that still hasn’t happened.

Something just isn’t adding up right now
I really do get your point and I’m not saying you’re wrong. But it’s hard to set up in a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 when we don’t really have any proper wingers other than an out of form Jack Bridge.

It makes little sense recruiting wingers if Maher’s preferred system is wing backs. But when things aren’t happening, it makes it difficult for us to change things up easily.

You don't need wingers to play 4-3-3. When we did it against FGR, Walker played left of the 3 and Bonne on the right, and both looked dangerous, but we soon went back to 5-3-2

They aren’t trying to re-invent the wheel.

It’s a method used in many different sports, by many different clubs. Obviously, Brentford and Brighton have been highlighted on here numerous times, FGR have a similar method too.
They have endless supplies of money, we don't. Now is not the right time to be doing it either. The January window is much trickier than the summer. They should've waited until the season was over before changing things. It's preventing us from much needed signings on the pitch and from us making the changes we need.

I hear John still suggests players but Kev don’t like them, just like Callum Butcher. Was all agreed with John still but Kev blocked it.

They don’t have endless supplies of money…

It’s been coming for a couple of months. Surely it’s better to have the issues ironed out in time for the summer, which is a huge summer for this football club.

Why?

Locality could be a factor, but there will many things that a player looks at before joining a club, so we may or may not tick all of those boxes.

Without knowing which other clubs, and what wages/bonuses/signing on fees etc are being offered, we simply don’t know that.

You’d think, if he has EFL interest, that would put that club ahead of us for example.
Could be another Danny Waldron situation. He joined with the words "prolific" attached to him. Scored 3 in 15 appearances last season for us.

This season mostly injured but a grand total of 226 minutes managed.

Could be a player looks at others that have joined and seen the situation with those and they think nah I'll pass.

Much prefer 4-3-3 or even 4-2-3-1 you have the defensive cover needed at the back and you play the attacking players we already have, being 2 down be flexible and not stubborn to change formation as it wasn’t working enough to give the forwards the ball

should fit in well then

Gus Taylor Golding Ralph
Morton Miley
Kendal. Coker. Walker
Bonne

Could have Wind for Gus and KAF for Coker…anything would have been better than staying in 3 5 2 which we were being over run playing
Especially when they had just 1 up front and left three CBs marking him, or trying to.

A point Paul Clark made more than once.

SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher remains in the market for a new striker but has urged those already in his squad to prove their worth too.

But for the current strikers to prove their worth they need to be given the opportunity to do so, and in the case of Danny Waldron head coach Kevin Maher seems already to have given up on him.

18 January

Ebbsfleet United have signed 22-year-old left back Alex Lankshear on loan from Blackpool until the end of the season.

They have also brought in Ipswich Town midfielder Ryan Carr, 20, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Gateshead.

17 January

Forest Green Rovers have made two signings in one day, bringing in Bristol Rovers midfielder Luke Cormick and Woking defender Cian Harries.

Cormick, 25, who has made 118 appearances across two spells with the Gas, has arrived on loan until the end of the season, while left-side centre-back Harries, 27, has signed on a more permanent, undisclosed-length deal.

Boston United have signed forward James Gale on loan from League One Mansfield Town for the remainder of the season.

Gale scored three times in 15 National League games for Solihull Moors during his stint there earlier in the season.

Meanwhile Boston have confirmed midfielder Dan Mooney has left the club after making 17 appearances for the Pilgrims since arriving last summer.

Wealdstone have signed free agent Will Randall, who was released by Ebbsfleet United at the start of the year.

The 27-year-old has previously played for W

We won't sign anyone meaningful until near the end of January.

We are now at the back of a very long queue I'd imagine whereby clubs only let players leave once they have a replacement.

I'd imagine we are having to wait for one or two like this before we get a few bodies in.

Maher haven’t got a clue how to sign players in, I rather we sack him off and bring in a manager who would sign attacking players and play attacking football and give opponents an hard games.
You do realise there is a transfer “committee” supported by a computer, with then a dollop of budget considerations and seeking “value”, in charge of recruitment- not Kev?

A number of the players today were in the team that tonked Barnet 3-0 away a couple of seasons ago. I'm just in the give KM more time camp but its getting difficult to argue we're getting the best out of what we have. Albeit losing Cards, Kensdale and now Pepple is a grim handicap to deal with.
You do realise Barnet continue to invest in their squad and spend £££….whilst we sign no-one and seek “value” ?

We need to rebuild the squad now but if we are planning to leave it to the summer to bring 10 plus signings then next season will be affected as well. It is unlikely that you can bed in a new squad in the summer and expect everyone to be up and running by the first game. It will take time. Something just does not feel right at the moment as there are so many good players out there and we seem unable to do anything.
