Transfer News and Gossip Transfer Rumours Thread 2024/2025.

Transfer news
The way we play hasn't changed from last season, when nobody was complaining about it and we were scoring plenty of goals. For a few reasons the balance of the side hasn't quite clicked this year and when you constantly have teams coming here setting up to park the bus and hoping for a goal from a set piece, it's not pretty.

A lot of the recent moans are puzzling as they are coming out after three wins in a row, one of which was a 4-0 drubbing. Clearly things are improving from the disappointing start to the season and if they continue to on the same trajectory, we'll all have a much more enjoyable second half of the season.

I can't argue with the bold comment above, some of the home games early season were truly dire, but I am pretty certain nobody is actively trying to play like that.
Oh I definately agree, which makes me believe the players are mostly at fault. But unfortunatley were in a new season and teams have identified how we play. Players not taking any risk whatsoever and that makes me believe its Kevin dictating that.

Although we have won 3 on the bounce, they were still worrying performances. I'll always take 3 points, but the performances havent really changed much since the start of the season. Sounds backwards I admit and results are most important, but I am growing more and more concerned and bored with how we play. (Opinion as a spectator)

Yes - in the old days there would be 4 strikers to provide cover for injuries, suspensions & resting players when games come thick & fast. Used to be the same with 4 central defenders as well.

Losing Pepple is a shame but if we had 4 fit strikers (and I believe Walker is close to being back) then, for me, securing something different in midfield is more a priority. This statement also presumes that Golding is going to stay for the rest of the season as this strengthens our defence.

Moncur was gone ........... but I would like to see the club fishing in the 4th Division waters for another experienced midfielder to replace him.
I'd agree with that Rattus, left side attacking midfielder should be No1 priority

I appreciate that this is off topic but as most of the posts on here are I’ll keep it going. I wonder if part of the frustration and constant yells for the ball to go forward are that many of us are from an age where football was played differently, especially at lower leagues and now everyone is playing a different style (playing out from the back, going backwards a lot of the time and switching play across the back line). Watching Liverpool closely last week they were doing the same. The obvious difference is that they then turn the possession into an incisive pass that creates sudden pace and attacking threat. We seem to lack purpose, the vision for the pass and sensible runners in the attacking third. We clearly can’t be Liverpool but it does seem that the creativity we’ve been calling for in midfield could be the game changer.

We would accept promotion though with a high level of Turgidity !

Quotes about Southgate

"England are slow, turgid and soulless, so stop pleading for for pity " "Truly rigid and Uninspiring football "
"His negative , safe tactics are not getting the best out of players tactics
"His substitutions are bizarre" NO masterplan and fewer goals

Southgates record

2 European Championship finals , including the first abroad and A World Cup semi final

Did he win anything though?

COSU need to be busy this summer..... we can't be going into a season with 17 available players reliant on the odd loan here and there! January is tricky window so don't blame them for taking there time but it would be good to get couple loans in. I'm expecting busy summer and won't accept anything less.

You could say the same about David moyes who was hounded out of West ham, despite a European title and regular top 8 finishes.

We are also playing uneventful football but look likely to finish mid table.

Crowds will definitely drop if that continues to be the case.

Interesting that Currie has done the pre-match conference today. Maher has been very tetchy as we know and probably didn't want to answer questions about the lack of incomings.

It's interesting though because from an owners perspective, on paper we technically have 4 strikers available. It's by no means as desperate as last season with Kabongolo and Vilhete up top. Many owners may look at what we have an say, get on with it gaffer. Walker was bought from a league 1 side for a fee and has scored goals at this level, Kendall bought for a fee from this level, Waldron bought for a fee and was free scoring in the leagues below and Bonne who should be in his prime and has played his career in the EFL.

We all want better and we certainly need to improve, but the owners may just say, you have enough to get on with.
Indeed. And if “getting on with it” and “enough”, being one of the smallest if not the joint smallest squad in the league, is what it is fine- set expectations accordingly and let’s not have plastic on keyboards melting blaming Kev for the natural consequences of the same… Most posters list at least four or five positions where we need re-enforcements.

I saw the Echo headline about “triple boost” for Southend and thought we’ve made three signings, yes….and then I was smacked in the face by a round of tumble weed…

I wasnt at the q&a so no idea if he was given an 'easy ride' or not or if there were any off record answers etc.

Justin did the podcast with a northern team fan, was that in Dec?

No offence but it strikes me you're trying to find fault with pretty much everything.
Questioning is not a synonym for finding fault. What is wrong with scrutinising the powers that be to see if actions match their words?

But, imho you just seem to be making **** up. The TL q&a easy ride - were you there?

COSU 'disappearing' - when they've been seen interacting with fans at games and done podcasts recently. It's not questioning - it's making assumptions which are wide of the mark and stating them as fact.

The minutes as published show that Tom Lawrence was not asked any searching questions hence my easy ride remark. If he was and they were off the record then that would be a cause for concern.

Maybe Jordon Ragguette according to Mr P Joseph Popes blogs ? Apols if this previously posted, I couldn't find that it had under search and takes far too long to troll through 65 pages to check. On his web site he is recommending one player e he thinks each of the 24 Nat League sides should go for in this second half of the season

"One position in which The Blues were always strong, and yet this year do look a little flat, is left wing-back. That is one area which I think they need to try to add, with Jack Bridge’s form having gone off and Nathan Ralph not really the profile – I feel – to be used as a flying wing-back and so the player that I’d be trying to sign is Jordan Raguette.

Raguette has adjusted to the sixth tier this term after signing for Salisbury and while as a collective they may not have always found their top form, Raguette is a player who has very much been operating at a level above so far as one of the standout – if not the best – left-sided defenders in the sixth tier. A player that is a full-back by trade, but operates very much as a winger with the ball, he is an attack-minded, athletic, lung-busting outlet down the flank that gets up in support of the attack at every opportunity.

One thing that I want to see from Southend United in the second-half of the campaign is an injection of speed, as at times I’ve felt that it is too one-paced, and adding a player of Jordan Raguette’s profile is perfect. He more readily wants to – and is able to – hit the byline with his energy and athleticism, will back himself to progress the ball with dribbling past the opposition, and isn’t adverse to swinging the ball in first-time rather than the touch-heavy work of someone like Jack Bridge. Raguette is more direct, plays at speed, is incisive and contributes positively in the attacking third.

For Salisbury this term, Raguette has been so good from the left-back spot that he has shouldered the burden of creativity and end product in front of goal with six goal involvements; his five goals is the most of any full-back in the division. Blues fans have talked about how why"

It is very disappointing that Danny Waldron has not been given a fair crack of the whip since he recovered from a nasty injury. Ironically, Kevin Maher was publicly praising Waldron's performances alongside Harry Cardwell before he got injured. Bonne has been given countless chances to make his case up front while Waldron after regaining his fitness has clearly been denied even one starting chance to press his claim.
