Transfer News and Gossip Transfer Rumours Thread 2024/2025.

Transfer news
So with Kabamba going to Bromley I wonder if a loan deal for Levi Amantchi might be on the cards, didn’t we go after him last year?
I suspect Bromley will either release or loan out one of their strikers very soon, you could argue they’ve 5 strikers plus Thomas (on loan) and Dennis. Watch this space !!

I was neither chuffed nor annoyed with their signing but if you were not praising then you and I were definitely in the minority. Look back to most of the comments after both joined and you will see that most saw them as quality signings. If they are bad players and stunk then the question should be raised about their recruitment or if they are not bad players then what has made them so bad for us? It all points one way. Oh erm... sorry I can bring it back to Kev and Still can I? That would be so wrong of me!
I was certainly concerned that we were going back down the Phil Brown recruitment route, whilst hopeful they'd prove good signings I was sceptical.

If you express any negative thoughts about a new signing on here you tend to get shouted down, 'at least give them a chance' etc etc. Hence many probably were underwhelmed but chose not to comment. I doubt the 'chuffed with them signing' brigade were representative of the whole fan base.

I’ve been wondering if he’d turn up for a while actually. As you say we were after him previously, he’s not a regular for Bromley, he has the profile we probably need, I’d imagine affordable. All makes perfect sense really.

I'd never heard of him, so looked him up. He's been out for a while over the last year with separate hamstring problems. He's expected to be let go in the summer clear out at Rangers.
He’s actually thought really highly of at Rangers so I doubt he’ll be let go. Had a rotten time with injuries hence not as many first team appearances. But when he’s been fully fit he’s been around the first team

I assume the targets for January are broadly the same as they have been for a while now…goalkeeper, ball playing centre half (assuming that will be Golding), attacking midfielder and a striker.

Do we think any other positions might also be strengthened? Would take a LWB to challenge for that position and perhaps another central midfielder to challenge Noor.

GK , CCB , a starting left footed LWB, creative mid and 2 strikers needed imo

January is not a great market. You'll pay over the odds and the players you can bring in tend to be the ones that aren't wanted by their current clubs.

Hence bringing in six new players in January would be pretty ill-advised long term. Clearly we need a couple but the better strategy would be to augment a couple of decent permanent signings with one or two decent loanees.

The summer is when to do business, we all know what happened there and we're still paying the price for the fruit-based soft drink.lookiong
Very fair point. January is known not to be the best time to move in this market . However our Manager who is generally reported as quite liking a smallish squad, has been calling for a few extras at practically every interview, even when we had 22

My own view is the minimum you need to get out of this league is 24. Last week we we fell to a squad of 14 fit professionals left standing . Since the embargo was lifted we have also been entreated to be patient on the transfer front a, yep ok, and then the message was January is key , right ok, even some understandable thoughts lets wait until the Summer , which does present the best opportunities no doubt

I really do get that and want our Manager to get the full party opportunity for the first time

However what about our succession planning ? when you know you already have the smallest or next to smallest squad in the league? Would we have used the data to recognise how many injuries there would be over the past 6 month period. ? Would we have born in mind the unexpected? and the increase in fixtures, and the need for 7 subs?
Then of course we get the message just how difficult it is to sign anyone, prior to the January window, really?

I think supporters are looking about and see that from September to now 71 signings have been made
71, so clearly its not that difficult is it?> and wondering how on earth did we end up in this position

Although me acting a bit devils advocate and calling for 6 coming in, was to emphasize the point that we should have never been where we are now. in the first place You cant keep saying only at Southend ! Thats the culture that needs changing surely?
Recent posters are saying we need a goalkeeper, midfielder, left wing back and 2 more strikers. We probably do , thats 5 for a start

The current average squad size in this league is 24. 6 more than us. Perhaps we can limp through to the Summer with 20 or 21?
