Transfer News and Gossip Transfer Rumours Thread 2024/2025.

Transfer news
It’s a fair point. To play devil’s advocate and it is subjective…how many players have come in as rough diamonds though and been polished by the management team into a better player? I’d say Pepple, Cardwell, GSM yes. All have developed wel and proven to be good investments / we’ll turn a small profit.

I think Morton, Wind, Appiah Forson, Kendall & Gubbins may in time but not certain to.

The longest list is the rest and I could argue some have become worse players who I expect could go on and do better elsewhere
A little harsh. Sandat, Kensdale, Miley could also be added to the first list. Harry Taylor was a bit part player in a terrible Barnet side before he came here. Nathan Ralph is now one of the first names on the team sheet. All have played their part in the most consistent defence in this league over the past two seasons.

Collin was absolutely nowhere before Maher gave him a chance, now he's one of the most sought after young goalkeepers in the lower leagues.

Husin and Bridge are not in good form this year but over the course of the past few seasons have been key players. Bridge in particular has consistently played his best football of his career under Maher here or at Chelmsford. Everyone seems to have had a case of collective amnesia with regards to these two.

Sorry, off topic.

Back on topic, I expect we will see some players arriving soon. We may be a little short handed on Saturday but fortunately the injury situation isn't too bad.

Dont worry though as when we get down to a squad of 14 fit pros We will get that fighting spirit back and Kev likes a small squad and is great at crisis Management, hence play offs are on the cards , or a miss by one poiunt?

There’s a reason ITKs have gone quiet … they all get hammered for sharing stuff and don’t have the energy to keep arguing with people
Bring back the old days when the first we knew about a new signing was when he ran onto the pitch for his debut. Social media is to blame for people’s ridiculous need for knowing everything immediately and all the time.

I have moved all the Data Analysis stuff to a new thread to not clog this one up.

Indeed. And your post prompted me to have a flashback to asking the guy who sits in front of me who the new tall guy warming up on the pitch pre-match was. His response:

"Stanley Collymore, apparently. A striker from Crystal Palace. Never heard of him".

They are as always, watching many games and players. They are putting the feelers out to ask about what type of person he is. After the lets be honest, 'failures' of Moncur and Bonne, who are fine as people by the way, (Waldron the jury's out as he's been injured so much of the time), they are trying very hard to get it right. I'm told we are going to boost the squad, but this time they are keeping the names close to their chest.

I still dont get why Bonne is classed as a "failure". He hasnt scored yet, granted. But he is an intelligent player who brings a lot, he is strong, good in the air and he draws defenders away to create space, but we are not exploiting this! He has had to get back to match fitness and arguably he isnt quite there yet. Waldron is untested at this level, and going from part time to full time has inevitably taken its toll so its not a surprise he has been injured a fair bit. He needs more time as well. Both are working hard to get this right, and with time both could still come good.

I personally think that our biggest issue is our complete lack of a creative, forward thinking midfielder. Ollie Coker is the closest, and he cant do this on his own. Husin and Bridge could be, but neither of them have been playing well. The others are far too defensive minded, so it becomes very "safe" and pedestrianised.

Hopefully the priority is someone who can unlock an attack. I had hoped that was Moncur, but clearly it wasnt. So, we go again and hope for that gem to emerge from somewhere!

I can't, of course, condone "the hammering"* (as you call it) but I do welcome the lack of leaks & rumours.

Perhaps wrongly (or just misguided) but I see this as a the club being more "professional" (proficient might be a better word) in their dealings.

I don't get this obsession with signing a forward thinking midfielder. We already have one that isn't getting a game (KAF) so do you really think Maher will play another we sign!!

We need some competition for places, definitely a CB, LWB and Forward.

He's a striker who hasn't scored. Even when not scoring he has three assists, one in the FA Cup. That's a failure

If he isn't playing the one we have, even though he looks a good player, and we are crying out for a decent foward thinking midfielder, I think that tells us more than we need to know regarding the poor set up we have each game! No creativity = few goals and perfectly good strikers getting thrown under the bus
