Can you name 2 teams in the National League that have squads of 30 plus players?
If it helps I posted about this earlier in the season

A couple of clubs went past 30. Barnet had 32 or 33 at one stage, The numbers at the top however have only just been reducing in the last few weeks, more significantly as a large number of loanees have just gone back to their home clubs, ending the loan spell on 31st December In some cases 4 or 5 leaving the loanee club. No doubt these clubs will strengthen further for the promotion push having released a number

For example the league leaders York are now down to 25 but brought in 27 players alone, a repeated rebuild number wise for them

Barnet in 3rd spot have recently dropped down to just 29 but they initially added 26 to their squad

I expect to see the numbers go up again

Yes other clubs have made moves for players but realistically how many have signed for other NL clubs that you feel would’ve been good and exciting signings here? I’m guessing not many besides a rumoured £350,000 striker going to York.

There are so many reasons why a signing might not happen. Another club comes in, parent club doesn’t want to sell, parent club needs to replace first, parent club wants to demand a fee, parent club believes they can get more money in the summer, parent club doesn’t want to lose a key player halfway through the season. Then even if the parent club agrees to sell the player might not want to move to us for personal reasons.

I mean, Rory Fallon rejected us because God told him to! 😂

We will make signings and not only that but they will be the right signings for the club, not a signing for signing sake.

They would be if the stood in the stand or by the opposite corner flag….
True. But if Alan shearer was in the middle they may be happy to float easy balls in or around the 6 yard box. As it is they need to be whipped in Trent style and hit someone in the face for it to go in - which is a tougher skill to try.

Would have been happy with signing Ndlovu

This may be a controversial view but as I am resigned for mid-table mediocrity this season I would rather us not sign anyone this window (except for a couple of loanees).

January is not the time to bring in mediocre players on inflated transfers. I would rather the club look to bring in new players in June/July, have a great pre-season and be ready to challenge for the 25/26 season.

Correct. Unless it is a doable deal for someone we really want, like Kendall.

That Mr Bellingham was Jude's Grandad??? I never knew that.... Mr Hill, I think, taught me French most years, but I am sure he taught a few lessons for me...
Certainly was - Jude’s dad is Mark Bellingham (a more than handy non-league footballer himself) who was at the school before moving over to the dark side (WHSB) because of not liking a dad who was a teacher. Mark’s older brother, Steve, was in my year (1979-86)

Any of the SHSB OBs available for transfer or is that for another thread?

Its think its quite hard to judge how many players signed elsewhere we would have been excited about.
Some here were very excited about Bonne and others Moncur, but perhaps not that many we might be envious about.. ;Pepple wasnt thought much of here until he kicked a ball for us and played a number of games

There are many reasons as you point out why someone doesn't sign, however I struggle with the knowledge that if its that difficult how come around 60 have come in fairly quickly elsewhere

It’s a fair point. To play devil’s advocate and it is subjective…how many players have come in as rough diamonds though and been polished by the management team into a better player? I’d say Pepple, Cardwell, GSM yes. All have developed wel and proven to be good investments / we’ll turn a small profit.

I think Morton, Wind, Appiah Forson, Kendall & Gubbins may in time but not certain to.

The longest list is the rest and I could argue some have become worse players who I expect could go on and do better elsewhere
A little harsh. Sandat, Kensdale, Miley could also be added to the first list. Harry Taylor was a bit part player in a terrible Barnet side before he came here. Nathan Ralph is now one of the first names on the team sheet. All have played their part in the most consistent defence in this league over the past two seasons.

Collin was absolutely nowhere before Maher gave him a chance, now he's one of the most sought after young goalkeepers in the lower leagues.

Husin and Bridge are not in good form this year but over the course of the past few seasons have been key players. Bridge in particular has consistently played his best football of his career under Maher here or at Chelmsford. Everyone seems to have had a case of collective amnesia with regards to these two.

Sorry, off topic.

Back on topic, I expect we will see some players arriving soon. We may be a little short handed on Saturday but fortunately the injury situation isn't too bad.
