Transfer news
Cardwell has spoken to all of the amigos, former team mates and JR, since his move to FGR.

Cardwell wants to play more minutes.

I’d love nothing more than to see that handsome ******* back in the blue of Southend United.

Personally, I don’t see it happening. We were priced out of a move for Quigley from them, not sure they’d be bending over backwards to help.
Could we afford Cards wages now. Plus isn’t he currently injured ?
Quite often when players return again they usually don’t reproduce the same form.
To be honest I’m on the fence on with this one.

They’ve spoken, but that doesn’t mean they are talking about coming back.

I’m sure we’d love him back, we never wanted him to go. Having Cardwell to replace Cardwell would be amazing. I’m sure Cards would love to come back, play football and be where he was loved, but ultimately it would be up to FGR and whether they’d let him go, and whether we’d be able to afford it.

As things stand today, and again these things change, I don’t expect to see him back at the Hall playing for us.

yup, agreed. Something I have mentioned many times before.
The conspiracy theorist in me still believes he never wanted to leave…..🤔

He definitely didn’t bang down the door and demand to leave, but ultimately he signed the contract there. The figures I’ve heard banded around, I’m not surprised he signed, but he could have turned it down. There wasn’t a gun being held to his head. I have no problem with him signing there.

An injury-prone 28 year old who hasn’t played above this level for 5 years, has only scored double digits in a season once in his career, only has 2 goals in 16 games this season, and struggles to get minutes despite his big wages at FGR.

If he wasn’t Harry Cardwell I can only imagine how people on here would react to the suggestion of us signing him.

Yeah, but **** me was he beautiful 😍

The more he scores = the bigger the chance we may lose him Or on the plus side Luton is no loger needed him and he is free to leave to jion us in the summer or Better sitll in jan.

I hope that conversation went like this. John Still to Paul Benson, ''Bim's so lucky, he was aiming for the near post there''.'' His shooting's so bad, it's gone inside the other post''. ''OMG, look at that one, the balls whipped across and it's hit his foot and gone in''. ''Another 2 lucky goals''. ''He'll be coming off soon as well''. ''He has no stamina, and we have to keep taking him off''. ''Well there's a lot of work that needs doing with this young man, but if the price is right, we'll save you all that hassle''.

I along with many would love to see Bim in a Southend shirt on a permanent basis but the reality is whilst in theory it wouldn't be unattainable the practicalities are difficult to ignore.
Luton have Bim under contract with a further option. Now Luton may have already made an assessment that it is unlikely he will become a 1st team squad member in the timescale of his current contract, but equally they will appreciate they have a good potential to still make some financial gain from his time with them rather than leaving on a free. If you like where Bim is concerned for Luton it's a sellers market.
Leaving aside the personal financial aspects that may be required to secure Bim, by any club, not that I believe this aspect is beyond us if COSU deemed fit. You would need to structure a deal that satisfies Luton's outlay on Bim already and make them feel comfortable with a potential windfall from a sell on clause.
The difficulty is for us I believe at this stage of Bim's contract Luton would not entertain an offer less than £150,000, not saying that's what I think he's worth, but the £100,000 that I have seen expressed by some posters whilst arguably realistic I doubt meets Luton's operating module at this time. Also I doubt that the normal pitch of 25 or 30 per cent sell on fee would cut it, more like a 40% rigid stance.
So in the here and now does the intial financial outlay and the prospective reduced 'return' on our own buy to sell for profit module sit with the COSU approach?
I would say it should do? Buying a 22 year old with clear potential to play higher, and make a big contribution now, with a good likelihood of selling on at a profit (even if shared), and years before his prime…and we know his character, what he brings etc.

I think we have got a “steal” with Kendall- really like him- but sometimes you need to do a Peterborough and invest to speculate if you can - and ultimately this is the approach that was supposed to pay dividends. It is reasonable to assume a return on our investment?

And aren’t fees generally paid over a period as well? Of course wages might be a bit of a challenge- yet Walker and Lopata and others came from similar levels and that was sorted?

It has to be balanced, and I know “wow” signings will cause a few to shudder, but if we want to compete with the footballing giants such as FGR, York and Barnet..

He went for the ££. Didn’t want to go but we couldn’t (or wouldn’t) get close to what FGR were offering….

Now he is probably better off and less happy.

As has been said FGR are unlikely to cut their losses and gift him back- although I think he might be more flexible now on salary expectations. Who knows in football..
