Transfer News and Gossip Transfer Rumours Thread 2024/2025.

Transfer news
I think Darren Currie would do a great job there, but I am hoping he gets his next shot as a Head Coach or Manager at Southend.

I am not sure what is going on behind the scenes at Southend but Kevin Maher seems to be pretty wound up recently and I have a hunch (without any supporting evidence) that Justin Rees - after settling into his role as Chairman - is now weighing things up carefully.

Currie did really well at Barnet and I think he was unlucky to find himself No. 2 rather than No. 1 when the current management team was appointed.

I don't think JR is in any mood whatsoever to change things on the football side at the moment.

Agreed. With all the money and works going on at the club and the need to steady the ship, the last thing COSU would want to do is have to settle a payout and then also find a suitable replacement.

JR has never once said we should be challenging for promotion. He's always said that you aim as high as possible but he's never said it's an expectation, not right now anyway. Too much has to be sorted before that expectation is a reality, even if plenty of fans don't want to admit it. That's not to say we shouldn't be higher in the table and that performances should have been better on occasions, but the reality is, we have had three clean sheets out of 4 in the league and lost only once in 6. That's not a sackable offense. A few wins and a few additions, things could look better going into Feb.

Anyone heard anything about a possible Cardwell return?

Heard some mutterings of this yesterday but didn’t know if it was hearsay.
Heard this a couple of weeks ago but would assume purely a rumour as would have thought it would have happened by now if the case. However I doubt he is too happy about the situation at FGR and didn’t start again yesterday

I don’t know how I would feel about that. If you gave me the choice to keep Pepple for the season or have Cardwell back I’d rather have Pepple.

Both would be even better.

Cannot see FGR letting him go, unless they have a big signing lined up.

He's making up the numbers at FGR, was the main man here. The lack of comment when leaving makes you wonder how much choice he had in the matter too.

Stranger things have happened at Roots Hall. But I think Pepple has more dimensions to his game and I actually prefer him leading the line.

As things stand, we have almost zero chance of getting Bim on a permanent deal…

Obviously that could change depending on how Luton’s transfer window goes, but he is very highly rated there. Our best hope is they don’t take advantage of the break clause in his contract, which I’m told Luton have, which covers the month of January.

Cardwell has spoken to all of the amigos, former team mates and JR, since his move to FGR.

Cardwell wants to play more minutes.

I’d love nothing more than to see that handsome ******* back in the blue of Southend United.

Personally, I don’t see it happening. We were priced out of a move for Quigley from them, not sure they’d be bending over backwards to help.

He may even go to another NL club for the 2nd half of the season if Luton want a higher percentage of his wages paid by the loaning club, and we can't afford it.
I along with many would love to see Bim in a Southend shirt on a permanent basis but the reality is whilst in theory it wouldn't be unattainable the practicalities are difficult to ignore.
Luton have Bim under contract with a further option. Now Luton may have already made an assessment that it is unlikely he will become a 1st team squad member in the timescale of his current contract, but equally they will appreciate they have a good potential to still make some financial gain from his time with them rather than leaving on a free. If you like where Bim is concerned for Luton it's a sellers market.
Leaving aside the personal financial aspects that may be required to secure Bim, by any club, not that I believe this aspect is beyond us if COSU deemed fit. You would need to structure a deal that satisfies Luton's outlay on Bim already and make them feel comfortable with a potential windfall from a sell on clause.
The difficulty is for us I believe at this stage of Bim's contract Luton would not entertain an offer less than £150,000, not saying that's what I think he's worth, but the £100,000 that I have seen expressed by some posters whilst arguably realistic I doubt meets Luton's operating module at this time. Also I doubt that the normal pitch of 25 or 30 per cent sell on fee would cut it, more like a 40% rigid stance.
So in the here and now does the intial financial outlay and the prospective reduced 'return' on our own buy to sell for profit module sit with the COSU approach?

yup, agreed. Something I have mentioned many times before.
The conspiracy theorist in me still believes he never wanted to leave…..🤔
As I posted before, Harry certainly looked very emotional walking back past the East Stand at the end of the FGR match at Roots Hall. I guess he could end up being loaned out elsewhere.

I wonder what difference it would make to Cardwell/FGR position, if the club fails to get promotion this year. They must have quite a large wage bill every month, so another season in this league might force their hand into releasing/selling some players.

Paul benson Lutons academy manger who sat next to John still at yesterdays game and I can assure you he won’t be there next year
