For this to get reported I guss a deal is on the cards. All of a sudden Hopper and Ogunleye gives a different outlook- one experience palyer tp press, create, bring others into the game alongside someone who knows where the onion bag is..
It would surely mean one or two leaving.

Waldron or wood or both.

Jack Wood will never get a chance here and may as well move on.

BRENTWOOD Town hot-shot Danny Ogunleye has been training with Southend United, Echosport understands.

The 23-year-old has hit the back of the net 27 times already this season including two against the Shrimpers in the FA Trophy last month.

And the forward's fine form has now attracted interest from elsewhere, including Blues.

Shrimpers boss Kevin Maher and his coaching staff have been running the rule over Ogunleye in training but the forward is also expected to train with fellow National League side Halifax Town this week.

There is also interest from a League Two side.

The forward, who is the top scorer in Isthmian North this season, was with Forest Green Rovers before joining Brentwood.
Well we are looking at him first- his agent, rightly will be playing the Halifax lined up card. In the end if we want him COSU needs to consider the question of value in a way that gets him here. Of course being outbid by Halifax even is not impossible...regrettably. Of course, Kev could decide he's rubbish but for CP to report it??

There’s also interest from a League Two side in Ogunleye. So although Halifax would be a surprise, there is at least another option higher up the pyramid.

Why?

Locality could be a factor, but there will many things that a player looks at before joining a club, so we may or may not tick all of those boxes.

Without knowing which other clubs, and what wages/bonuses/signing on fees etc are being offered, we simply don’t know that.

You’d think, if he has EFL interest, that would put that club ahead of us for example.

we have forwards now, but unless Kev can change the way we play its irrelevant how many strikers we sign. both these would be decent signings but its creativity from midfield and out wide where we are lacking

If you're playing for Brentwood, a move to Southend is geographically easy whereas a move to Halifax isn't. That will probably be a factor too. If we have one coming in, we need to move one out - and as Waldron never gets a game I'm guessing its him.

I hope these are not just panic signings to deflect away from the awful performances of late, it's the style that needs to change as has been pointed out, the worry with the Brentwood and Aveley players will be the same as probably what's happened with Waldron, although they are younger they aren't used to the intensity of full time football and will pick up knocks or take a while to settle in, to me they are not a signing that will kick us on now, yes they may come good in time. Morton was another who I really like and at times has been our best player this season but for some reason doesn't get game time, maybe that has something to do with fitness and the intensity that's been asked of then at times, which when we play that way is ok, but it's hard with these players to keep playing that way week in week out and when it's not working like at the moment, we look awful.

Utopia for us if that were possible. We do try to keep things to relevant threads but are not always on here to move posts and before you know it a Thread has run off course. Umpteen times Mods have pointed out in this thread. Keep it to Transfer gossip alas we ofter fail and people take no notice.
It wasn’t a dig at yourself and the mods either. My point was that people completely ignore the context of the thread and simply keep posting their vitriol against Maher and his tactics on every thread regardless. I was surprised you even challenged my point in all honesty. Anyway enough said. I love SZ but it becomes a difficult read at times like this.

Hopper is a very different player to Bim.

He doesn't make opportunities for himself, doesn't have a lot of pace etc.

He can definitely hold the bal up and has a good header on him.

To me, you invest to solve a problem. Is our problem hold up play?
Yes.

It may not be our only problem but it is our biggest single problem.

We’d be setting up an Ogunleye to fail if we went for someone like that without having someone for them to play off. We’re currently setting up Walker, Kendall etc to fail. We can keep throwing money to find a goalscorer but without a partner they will invariably fail unless they are a targetman themself.

Bim could do some of the targetman stuff but was work in progress. The only other one who can is Bonne and we don’t want to be in a situation where we have to play him.

our problem in my humble opinion is that we create very few chances. our crossing from open play, our corners and our dead ball delivery from free-kicks are all imho very poor.

I do think we will get Ogunleye. Wood will leave, Waldron and Bonne could follow (released, mutual consent blah blah).
Depends
All of a sudden we would have the players for 3 up top. Ogunleye currently plays left of a 3? We would have Bonne and Hopper down the middle, Ogunleye/Walker left, Waldron/Kendall right? Assuming these things happen- 343
