The Essex CCC Thread

Damn, won't be able to make that.

I should really check up and see when (if at all) Essex are playing in the CC at the Oval and Lords. I've a feeling we've already played Middlesex and it was somewhere like Southgate, but we play Middlesex so often....

Good. I had a mate who was trying to persuade me to go to watch Kent, but I'd rather watch Essex on the telly.

I've had a right stroke of luck with that game on Friday. A mate who is a Middlesex memeber has lent me his membership whilst he is on holiday, so free entry to the Lord's Pavilion for me!

We have a Championship match at Lord's vs Middlesex starting on August 11th.

ESSEX ESSEX ESSEX !!!

Cheerybye :)

Yes, biggest revenue generator in the game. Purists might whinge about it, but it's vital for the sustainability of non-Test venue counties like Kent and Essex. Pity you're out, eh?

Yeah.......money, money, money. Don't know whether I'm a purist but do question whether it has much to do with the subtilties of cricket. I suppose you could do the same thing with football .........ten minutes each half with no goalkeeper allowed.....................don't know whether it would catch on, Although, seeing that football is only ninety minutes+, there's probably no need................and YES..............................it is a pity!

We were never really in it yesterday, though IF Middlebrook had held onto that catch (it would've been a stunner mind) they would've needed 48 off 5 with 5 wickets left and it might've been different

We pay a heavy penalty by being a successful county and having our best players called up for International duty all the time ... perhaps Jonny would like to tell us how many K*nt players were unavailable yesterday ;) ... how many counties could cope with losing players of the calibre of Cook and Bopara for such a crucial game ?? (I'm not certain why Danish didn't play mind)

And this is where the ECB have a lot to answer for ... next weekend its the FP semis and (for example) Lancashire will be without Flintoff, when it comes to the T20 Quarters no test players will be available, surely they could schedule matches so that the top players get to play in their counties top games ??

And this is where the ECB have a lot to answer for

:offtopic: slightly, but I'll tell you where else the ECB have a lot to answer for - paying Michael Vaughan £350,000 for that last (utterly pointless) central contract. I remember it being criticised at the time by a few people here; terrible decision.

With all due respect, the flip side is the fact that you don't have to pay the wages of these players. Kent are 'lucky' in the sense that they're overloaded with Lions-standard players like Key, Denley, Steven, Jones and Khan who are above-average players who don't get called up often, but then again we have to pay for them. It's a fine balancing act, and explains why we've only got 16 professionals on the books, and no regular overseas player.
