England can have Rob Key if they like - this is the first time he's made any runs this summer.

As for Walker, well, we gave you Masters so there had to be some trade-off. That said, he's a good player; just needs time to settle in. As a leftie he adds balance to your line up. He'll come good.

Masters arrived by the indirect route from Leicestershire IIRC.

I wanted to post this yesterday afternoon but didn't want to put the mockers on ...

Amla is 159 not out as we are making a good fist of saving this match ... 200 all out in our first innings after Glamorgan had got 500 is simply not good enough though and shows precisely why we have gained fewer batting points than any other side in the league

He ended up with 181 (possibly the highest scoring debutant we've ever had ?? Obviously ignoring the paltry 4 he scored in the first innings !!! and along with 64 from Foster and 88* from RtD we saved the game easily in the end

Gotta do something about these first innings failures though

We've got two class bats, but little else and when those two class bats are busy displaying their vulnerable techniques on the international stage (although that lbw decision Ravi got was atrocious) that leaves us with no batting. It was definitely the right decision to sign a batsman as our overseas player, and whilst I wasn't overly enamoured with Amla as the overseas player, that was one hell of a knock to save the game.

Pettini is a specialist captain (although I'm not even sure his captaincy is that special), Napier has been pushed up to 3 because of a lack of players. Grant Flower is a more than useful batsman, but is included as much for his slow left-arm bowling, whislt Foster is a keeper but is slated to come in at five.

Westley is presumably at Durham, but what's happened to Chopra? Is Micklebrugh injured?

I think Micklebrugh is with the U-19's playing Bangladesh. I've only seen the last half hour, but Foster is smashing it to all parts. Amla becomes the first Essex batsman to get a century on debut in first class and one day cricket.

Edit Foster has just taken 21 off an over by Hamilton-Brown.

Fantastic effort from Amla, chanceless till he finally got out

Early wickets are the key now, if we can get 3 or 4 in the first 15 overs i'm sure we can hold on, but if the likes of Goodwin or Wright get in then i think we're sunk

I'd no more lump on Essex than i would Southend ... odds don't come into it it's more of a superstitious thing
