The Essex CCC Thread

Still, a lot of these T20's are won by just one or two players having good spells or innings so hopefully someone will produce on the day and we at least get past the semi's this time.
Only have to look at the QF, Walker and Pettini batted brilliantly but it was probably Wright's excellent 4 overs in Lancashire's innings that won the game for us.

Glad to see RtD back, he was in great form with both bat & ball prior to his injury, and it may be a lot to ask for him to come straight back into the side on finals day. I think Flower may just get in ahead of Phillips because of his big match experience. I think Carter is still available, but I doubt if Notts will allow him to play as Essex could face them in the final. Hopefully Kaneria's registration will be confirmed. I'm hopeful Essex will beat Hampshire, but I think Somerset will be the other finalist, and I think they will be favourite to win the cup.

Notts v Somerset could be interesting as whilst Somerset are a very strong batting outfit, Notts will presumably have Broad and Swann playing alongside Sideshow. With Franks and Adams as well that's a good bowling line up.

I'm sure glad we're playing Hampshire first. Got a crowd round mine to watch on Saturday, we'll be gutted if we don't get to see Essex in the evening!

Notts fans don't want Swann to play, they'd rather stick with White who has helped get them there, rather than Swann who they think isn't interested in Notts any more. They also want Darren Pattison to play ahead of Franks (who has been probably their best player this season). Mind you they think Chris Read is some sort of God, so I'd take what they say with a pinch of salt.

Their batting is erratic and they are quite a slow team in the field (lots of old players, plus Samit Fatel), but the presence of Broad to bowl the critical overswould make them favourites in my books to win it overall, despite being a poor fielding team.

Somerset's batting line-up is awesome.

Hampshire are shooting themselves in the foot by not picking the best 20:20 player in the world, but should still have enough to sneak past a jaded Essex team. Struggling with niggles, Essex just don't have enough players in form and 20:20 is above all a form game as you don't have any time to play yourself into form.

Cork picked up an injury during Hampshire's CC game I think, and Ervine is doubtful as well, would be a major bonus for us if they are both missing. Lumb is also out for the season after breaking his foot.

I think we will have more than enough to get past Hampshire, think I'd rather we played Notts in the final. Somerset's batting is terrifyingly good....

I thought i was pessimistic YB but you've taken the biscuit there. We are stronger than Hampshite and if we dont get to the final, i'll be gutted!

This is a team who lost to Warwickshire in the CC.

We nearly lost to Northants, but for the performance of two youngsters who won't feature on Saturday.

I'd have fancied us a month ago, but being realistic we just don't have the players in form and our key men are all banged up. I'll still be gutted when we lose though, as this game has come at a really bad time for us.

A bit peeved as Fox Sports over here aren't showing our semi final live, they start their coverage with the second one and also showing the final.

Really looking forward to today, come on boy's..:)

Pretty even at the moment, I reckon. A couple more wickets and we're in trouble. Need Dwayne to earn his £10k here.

Happily the 16th over has been a good one for us. 135-5 ................and then, sod it...................another wicket down 139-6 ............the important wicket of Foster gone.
