The Essex CCC Thread

One of them chucks down the leg side from the spinner, where the batsman overbalances trying to flick it away and falling out of his ground.

More importantly, why was our best batsman coming in as nightwatchman?

Every run counts this morning and Walker is adding them slowly. 93 ahead with 3 wickets left, can we somehow get it up to 150?

117 ahead at moment. I wouldnt fancy our chances unless we can get at least 50 more on the board.....

129 ahead, Walker and Masters doing a grand job here. Partnership of 36, third highest in the match so far.........

Carter has gone off injured too. Let's hope he isn't fit enough to bat.

Might pop along later if we post a competitive total. I'm quite enjoying watching England in the warmth and comfort of my home at the moment though - the wind at Garon's is bloody cold!

Imagine playing football there on a Sunday morning in Dec/Jan! What numpties would do that ... !!

Walker and Masters now have the 2nd biggest partnership of the game. Showers due this avo so i'd stay indoors Muse!

Shock win for Essex after being 100/5! Wheater and Comber (2 unknown's to most) put on 116* in about 15 overs to win the game for us!

Blimey, I didn't think we had an earthly at 100/5. Adam Wheater is the reserve keeper and I'm told highly rated, I think that Comber is a batting all rounder and this was his debut in the CB competition, I think he played in the T20 earlier in the season.

Well done Coomber and Wheater. I know next to nothing about Coomber, I thought he was a medium-pacer but he can clearly bat.

One word of caution, whilst our youngsters did superb, I hadn't even heard of two of the Northants attack.

Yeah knew Wheater as know he played one or two last season but hadn't really heard of Comber. He didn't bowl so guessed he was just a batter!

Although I follow the results I'm not too much on the button with 21st Century Essex CCC............so it is with some relief that I wasn't the only one to stare blankly at the two names who carried us to victory yesterday. Hopefully, it bodes well for the future.............and I thought that it was also important to get back to winning ways following such an ignominious defeat..........even accepting that a 40 over game bears little relationship to the County Championship.
Don't know Garon's ground at all, in my days it was always a couple of matches at Chalkwell Park and at Southchurch Park. Remember one occasion, back in the sixties, at the latter ground, when we had a match against Yorkshire and the Blues were playing Bradford PA (?) at Roots Hall. I remember there being some football supporters from both sides at the cricket. Can't remember whether the match was an evening kick-off but that would seem to be the most reasonable explanation.

I see England have released Cooky, Pietersen, Swann and Broad to play on finals day. However, Hampshire will not be selecting Pietersen on the basis he's said he doesn't want to play for them any more (though Flower has said he needs to find another county next season).

There's a video interview with RtD on the Essex site about his availability for Sunday though can't watch as I'm at work:

I notice Hampshire and Somerset are playing each other whilst Notts and Essex get a nice rest this week.

Forecast in Hampshire for Saturday is Sunny Intervals with some light showers.

Looking forward to this!!

Paul Grayson just speaking on SSN Live. They had Mon, Tues and Wed off. Been training today.

Ryan Tendo will BAT only at either 4 or 5. Danish should be given the all clear to play on Saturday so that sounds positive as well. Bravo been playing back home in their T20 comp and is in good form and Cook will play on Saturday so i'd imagine we will now look like this! Hmmmm saying that, i have 12 names down, so not sure what route Grayson will take. Will be harsh on whoever misses out, but Flower could suffer from Tendo's return to the team!

Cook
Pettini
Bopara
Walker
Tendo
Bravo
Foster (WK/C)
Flower/Philips
Masters
Kaneria
Wright

Or i guess Wright may miss out and play Flower and Phillips. Certainly much trickier now we have all these options!

We look a little short on bowling options, so they'll almost certainly go for Phillips over Flower.

Tough choice between Philips or Flower.....as much as Id rather go with the Englishman, Flower does seem to produce something in a lot of games, either with the ball, bat or in the field.

Id probably rather see Bopara opening with Cook or Pettini (with the other at 3) as Cook and Pettini are less likely to get us off to a flyer.

Doesn't look too bad a team, with a decent batting line up for us (in stark contrast to recent championship games).....some big hitters in the middle order with the potential to win us some games. Sounds like a bit of a risk with Tendo as in addition to his big hitting his running between wickets and fielding is usually excellent and we will lose that. Still, a lot of these T20's are won by just one or two players having good spells or innings so hopefully someone will produce on the day and we at least get past the semi's this time.
