The Essex CCC Thread

So Bravo and Kaneria with presumably Masters, Wright and Chambers as the main 5 for the final? Chambers is having a fitness test for the FC game against Warwickshire this week so one assumes he'll be fit for Saturday week.

They haven't ruled our RtD being available but it seems unlikely.

Chambers hasn't been an automatic selection in the 20:20s. I think they'll go for Phillips instead, although I'd have Grant Flower (and maybe Westley) as my second spinning option.

I'd say final days we will line up like this:

Pettini
Bopara
Walker
Bravo
Flower
Foster (W/C)
Phillips
Masters
Wright
Kaneria
Chambers/Carter

If Cook was available, i'd say you'd lose the number 11 and go with the extra batter. I really cant see RtD being fit and if he is, i cant see him playing both the semi and the final (if we were to make it!) ...

Bravo is rumoured to be getting £50k for Finals day. So, my question is how much revenue do the club get from the big day out?

I don't think you will be far wrong there.

I guess we are still going to get a healthy pay for playing on the day irrespective of whether we win or lose first game up. Do the winners still get the chance to play in a champions league type competition....if so then I guess that would be where a lot of the big money comes in and why they might deem it worthwhile spending £50k on one player.....

I can't believe £50k on a player is worthwhile. One innings and 4 overs and some fielding to prove his value or potentially 2 innings and 8 overs with a few more bits of fielding. Only MOM performances would warrant that outlay IMO. Ofcourse the £50k quoted could be misleading!

TBH i think its money that needs to be spent. IMO we still look a batter light and thats with Bravo in the side. Imagine that XI without Bravo or Danny!? We'd end up having to play someone like Westley or Mickleburgh who have yet to prove themselves as proven decent crickters, especially for "finals day"!

Ouch, must win game against Warwickshire. Won toss, chose to bat and 39/5 after 15 overs. Either its a shocking performance or the Garons Park track hasn't improved since I played on it a few years ago and got a shooter.

52/6, what a disaster. With all the other teams having games in hand we could be sliding into the relegation zone pretty quickly (and Warwickshire are bottom!).

It'll take something quite special to lose to Warwickshire, but fair play to the lads, it looks as if they are doing their best to do so.

ps Well played Ashley Giles, tapping up our best player the week before we play them in a crunch game. Definitely nothing underhand about that.

What does that relate to?

As for this game, looks like my plans to go and watch the 4th day on saturday morning before the southend game are being scuppered by Essex's batting ineptitude.....

And we won the toss! Lets hope its a shocker of a pitch and we roll them over for an equally low score.

A recovery of sorts with McGain and Palladino digging in. Well, Palladino actually hitting out with 31 off 36. No batting points but if the wicket is that bad at least we have something to play with at 149/9.

Cannot believe we chose to bat, especially with the weather and forecast. Ball was swinging a lot. We seem intent every year on having a 3 day game at Garons, each time losing it too. I left before the storm came, could see the clouds closing in, got away 10 minutes before heavy rain. Lucky escape.

Hopefully the rain will dampen the pitch and it'll be spicy tomorrow morning when they bat, otherwise this will be a sorry innings defeat.

All in all an inspired decision by Foster, electing to bat after having won the toss. Perhaps we didn't fancy batting last on this pitch?.......
...................there again, if we lose by an innings, that rather undermines that strategy! :stunned:
