The Essex CCC Thread

According to Via Michelin it's 73km from Southampton to Aldershot, which is approximately 60 miles (further than I thought) so about an hour. I've not been to Aldershot in years so can't remember what it's like parking in the vicinity of the ground.
53.9 miles according to the AA, 1hr and 4 mins driving time....

New Overseas star set to strengthen the Eagles Finals Day team

Essex have today strengthened their Friends Provident t20 squad by acquiring the services of West Indies all-rounder, Dwayne Bravo (subject to visa approval). The 26 year old West Indian Cricketer will be available for selection for Finals day on Saturday 14th August.

The right handed batsman and right arm medium-fast bowler will add extra experience and class to the Eagles side. Dwayne also has played Twenty20 cricket for the West Indies and Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. Dwayne made his one day international debut against England in the 2003/4 tour of the Caribbean.

Paul Grayson, Essex First XI Head Coach spoke exclusively to www.essexcricket.org.uk, “Obviously Dwayne is a world class all rounder, we have lost the services of other big hitters such as Graham Napier and Ryan ten Doeschate. We see Dwayne as a like for like replacement for Scott Styris. He is a high quality cricketer, we feel we are short of another all-rounder with injuries to Napier (Graham Napier) and Tendo (Ryan ten Doeschate), he is a top class player and we hope he can make a major impact on Finals Day”.

Paul Grayson also updated supporters on the fitness of Ryan ten Doeschate who has been out of the Essex side since his injury obtained away at Somerset. “Ryan has been doing all he can with the support of the back-room staff, if Ryan continues to progress well over the next couple of weeks we can only hope that he has a chance to play his part in Finals Day. We will give him every chance of playing at the Rose Bowl for Finals Day”.

I've got tickets for the finals day, well looking forward to that now. Four very good sides involved. Must say think Essex must be happy to draw Hampshire, wouldnt of fancied either Somerset or Notts in the Semi's.

No Surrey in the finals so I shall become a fan of another side for the day.

Any suggestions ;)

With most eyes on the Test, Essex also have an FC game to play against Kent. Got that nob Key early and Bryce McGain has taken a wicket on debut. Very similarly to England it's 99/2 at lunch.

We sit 4th but most teams have 2 games in hand so we need to pick up plenty here (Kent are 8th with only a single win).

This and the next FC match may well determine whether Essex retain Division 1 status, Warwickshire are next up at home, a win and a draw would be handy.

worst kept secret in the world.

masters 11 overs 22
chambers 8 overs 24
carter 4 overs 13
bryce 6 overs 35

when he played his only test he bowled 2 long hops an over. it would appear he is doing the same again!

My comments are based solely on his international success and is intended to offend him for being an Aussie. I wish him well in the Essex kit. But a first class average of over 35 isn't great! That said did you know he didn't turn pro until he was 35 years old! Love that! It is probably judgemental morons like me why he has not been able to make the grade! He better get 10 wickets in the game or he is a terrible signing ;)

For a bowler who is seemingly expensive in the FC game, his average and strike rate in T20 & 50 over cricket is quite impressive.

I was aware that he was a late comer to the game, and hopefully he'll have a bit of success with Essex. I'm looking forward to watching him at Garons next week.

It looks like Chambers picked up an injury early on and that has caused us a bit of suffering and left us a bowler short and Kent close on 360-6!
