The Essex CCC Thread

Pretty bad day all round, Kent add 52 for the 9th wicket and it's only down to Pettini carrying his bat so far for 80 that we have any hope at all of salvaging the game. Ravi made it in but made just 2 and we're 194/6 needing another 76 to avoid the follow on with not much batting in the lower order.

The only encouraging thing is Pettini's form, since losing the burden of captaincy he seems to have found some form (interesting to see that Fossie's glovework in the T20 QF was below his usual standard - it definitely must have an impact). Hopefully Petts can now push on and fulfill some of the early promise he had. Easy to forget he's still only 26.

We make 279 and have Kent 40-6. Carter has taken 4 wickets. Matt Walker apparently on first bowling chance and has taken a wicket! Surley they must mean its McGain?!

With Chambers and Bopara both injured in match and not able to bowl, then Matt Walker would be our 3rd seamer. I remember him bowling a bit for Kent in the past but never really for us.

Walker has been a bit of a medium pace trundler, with a bit of luck Essex could be chasing less than 220.

Walker ends up with 3 wickets, which im sure he enjoyed against his old club! We got them AO for 135 and we closed on 48-1 meaning we need another 230 on the last day which obviously wont be easy! (especially considering the injuries we have!)

I can imagine the sniggers when the umpire announces that Matt Walker will change his angle of attack to a left handed batsman

Umpire ''Batsman, change of action. Right arm round'' :)

Incredible turn around. By no means sure that we'll win this but at least we have a chance..........which is more than could be said at the start of play yesterday............or when we were all out for 276. Will be keeping an eye on our progress during the day. Come on Essex!!!

Ummmm! Not looking good this morning.........Micklerburgh and Westley both gone........64-3. Bopara at the crease now with Walker..........we need a partnership.........like now.

100/3 and 4 boundaries in three overs, hardly cautious batting! Though probably an aggressive field.

177 to get, would be an immense win if they can make it but I sense we'll need some good contributions from the tail again.

When does Bravo arrive? We can't play all three.

I thought he was just arriving for the T20.....so presume he is a cert for the day. If we can play Danish as well that would massively strengthen our bowling.

He is. As Danish is registered with Essex as their regular overseas player, and you can play two in the T20 I think he'll be able to play. I'm not sure where this leaves Bryce McGain.

McGain cant play in the 20 20 anyway ( i think ) so we should be able to work around it fine. Result that Danny has been released!

So Bravo and Kaneria with presumably Masters, Wright and Chambers as the main 5 for the final? Chambers is having a fitness test for the FC game against Warwickshire this week so one assumes he'll be fit for Saturday week.

They haven't ruled our RtD being available but it seems unlikely.
