The Essex CCC Thread

Brilliant game of cricket last night. Everything 20/20 should be. I always thought we were slightly behind......Lancashire seemed to find a boundary most overs and no one could stem the flow of runs other than Wright. If he hadnt got such good figures I think the game would havfe been beyond us.

Even with 5 overs to go I thought we were second favourates. Pettini seemed to slow up / not get much strike, but Walker paced his innings well and Foster's cameo was superb.

One of the big differences was our out fielding and running. Even when Pettini and Walker were not hitting boundaries, they managed to scamper ones, or turn one's into two's which probably added about 10 runs to our score. Really good achievement when you consider the players we are missing.

I can't see it being Warne given his Hampshire credentials. It's possible it may be Yusuf Pathan who we agreed terms with pre season but the Indian Board refused him permission to play. It's also possible that Pakistan may release Danish to play, although I'm not sure if finals day coincides with the test series or not, which will obviously rule out Cook.

If we are first up at 11 am then Cricket - Aldershot - and the final is doable.
What about Yuvraj Singh, he'd be a handy guy to have. Finals day is in an 8 day gap between the 2nd and 3rd Test's so there's a chance that Cook could play, can't see Pakistan releasing Danish, as they are in a 2-day game against Worcester starting on the 14th

It's a shame we couldn't pursuade any Australians to stick around after their test series!

Looking at the sides, Somerset was the main one I wanted to avoid with their batting line up. As the game is played in the gap between test, if Notts are allowed to play Broad and Swann, added to Pattinson, Sidebottom and Patel then that is a pretty good bowling line up. Hampshire seem the most beatable if we can overcome their home advantage.....

I think England will release Cook to play, Yuvraj would be more than handy, however I think Essex will want more of a (seam) bowling all rounder like Pathan. I agree that Pakistan aren't likely to release Danish, given it's mid tour for them.

Mitchell Johnson was due to play for Essex a couple of years ago so it's possible he may still be on the radar.

Out of interest, Essex were as far out as 9/2 in the betting at one point. That was at about 10:15, which I think is around the time Bopara got out. We didn't become the favourites until just before 11:00, but the odds soon collapsed thereafter.

Yet again Essex CCC decide to only sell tickets at the ground. Friday at 10am they go on sale for members. Who is that convenient for?!

£50-55 quid a ticket too. May give it a miss. Anyone else going?

Members who live in Chelmsford I presume.
Definitely want to go to this and it should be a good day out, with the possibility of taking in the Aldershot match.

The game finished about 11.15, so I presume the odds changed around the time of the Mahmood and Smith overs. Around 10.15 was, I think around the middle overs where we were not really upping the run rate.

By the way, for those watching on TV, were the Walker run outs close? Took an age for them to be confirmed not out at the ground, despite neither team seemingly concerned it was out....

the 1st one was very close, possibly even out, but the cameras couldn't pick it up clearly. I think at a Test Match ground, where cameras are excatly square, he might not have got away with it, as his bat seemed to bounce up. The 2nd was close, but in.

To be fair, that's not a bad price for 3 20/20 games.

I've checked the order of play on the Hampshire site and they think the first semi won't finish until 2.15. It's definitely doable, but it'll be tight to get there on time.

As for collection in Chelmsford only, I thought it was a county team, not Chelmsford's! And you're right, on reflection the prices aren't bad for three games.

GAME CONFIRMED AS FIRST ON!!

ESSEX EAGLES V HAMPSHIRE ROYALS – 1st semi-final

FIRST GAME: 11:30am - 2:15pm

SOMERSET V NOTTINGHAMSHIRE OUTLAWS – 2nd semi-final

SECOND GAME: 3:00pm - 5:45pm

FINAL GAME: 7:15pm - 10pm

I reckon anyone wanting to catch the game at Aldershot will need to leave the Rose Bowl at about 1.30 absolute latest, as I think it's Park and Ride, no parking at the ground...

Not according to this however by leaving the car park to go to Aldershot, you may have a bugger of a job finding a spot when you come back.
Thanks for checking CS. I've never actually been to the Rose Bowl, but I could have sworn I'd heard that it was Park and Ride.

But then there's plenty of time to get back for 7.15 though, it's getting to Aldershot for 3pm that's the challenge.

According to Via Michelin it's 73km from Southampton to Aldershot, which is approximately 60 miles (further than I thought) so about an hour. I've not been to Aldershot in years so can't remember what it's like parking in the vicinity of the ground.
