I will be hoping Essex and Sussex can win this afternoon at least giving Surrey a chance of qualifying.

Anyone watching the Hants vs Sussex game on sky?

Just got back from the Essex game, slightly sun burnt and slightly worse for wear. Bopara and Cook had a shocking innings. But lucky that Sussex didn't win so we got the home tie. I would give a proper report on the match but I am ****ed so...... Gonna go and have a few more Nadia's and die on the sofa.

So that's Lancashire for us on Tuesday week.

Next up Yorkshire in the CC followed by Northants in the 40 over comp (which we're also going ok in).

And sadly it didn't get much better than that .. Maurice Chambers got hit for 5 successive boundries by Warner and after the 5th appeared to go and give the Aussie **** a dry slap that it was soon calmed

All in all it was a pretty lacklustre display today, and one that needs to be improved upon massively if we are to get past Lancs next Tuesday evening and book our spot at finals day, i've not been to one before as previously Southend have either been at home or at QPR when Essex have made it .. this time SUFC can do one as Essex will be my main priority on August 14 though i am hoping to be able to fit both in (see an earlier post)

I see Pettini has signed a new contract. I wondered if the moving of the captaincy might signal the end of his Essex career, he's not exactly done that much to warrant a place in the batting line up.

Well he isn't playing in the current Championship match against Yorkshire, nor is Godleman. Essex are 45/0 in the 14th over.

If you discount Grant Flower Essex are also without an overseas player in this match.

Only just spotted we were playing today.

Not sure what's happened to our bowling attack, I think Ravi and Grant Flower might be our senior bowlers!

Andy Carter must have signed during the world cup, as that completely passed me by. Good signing though, as he's very highly regarded. He's reputed to have good pace and swing it and is on fast track for England honours. I assume it's only a loan. Would love us to sign him a la Godleman, but just don't see Notts letting him go.

Masters isn't playing today and Palladino seems to have dropped off the radar since his loan spell over the bridge.

Sideshow barely plays for Notts.

Notts are particularly poor at bringing through homegrown talent, which is why Carter's path is blocked by an overseas journeyman such as Andre Adams and aging pros like Sideshow, Darren Pattinson, Charlie Shreck and Paul Franks. That said, they are doing fairly well in the County Championship and Luke Fletcher and Alex Hales eventually forced their way into their side.

Phillips is OK for an orthodox spinner bowler. They're not going to be matchwinners, plus he bats a bit. Although to be honest, I'd look to go more down the Westley route of a batsman who bowls a bit.

Don't have an issue with Pettini signing, if it's as an one-day batsman and championship cover.

My point is that these players flesh out the squad in my opinion and won't do much to ensure our stay in the top league of the CC. Phillips - there could be room for improvement but he just doesn't turn it much. Batting is ropey! Not convincing!

I thought Pettini would be out the door when he lost the captaincy! His mum must be copping off with one of the coaches. Standard.
