The Essex CCC Thread

I'd have both Bopara and Wright in my team.

Bops should be in there as a specialist batsman. The fact that he can bowl is just a bonus. I'd have him in there at 4. I like Colly, but I like him a lot better at 6 and Morgan should be at 5.

As for his bowling, I'd use him as the 5th bowler (sharing that duty with Colly and Wright). He bowls an awful lot of dross, but I like his strike-rate and I'd be happy for him to buy wickets. I'd rather someone who takes 10-0-55-2 than someone who takes 10-0-40-0. Yardy doesn't offer enough wicket-taking threat for my liking in ODIs.

Despite their hundreds, I'd discard both Strauss and Trott at the first opportunity. They are a disaster waiting to happen at the next World Cup.

Essex v Gloucestershire tomorrow, a win pretty much guarantees our place in the QF's

We then play Sussex Friday and Middlesex Sunday. Sussex are second with a better NRR but we have a game in hand so three wins will give us a home QF. Not holding out too much hope though!!

I'll be there tonight, Somersets win last night virtually guarantees them a home tie, but as i said earlier i'm really not fussed about travelling .. as things stand we'll be at Edgbaston in the QF and that holds no fear for me, i wouldn't fancy a trip to somewhere a bit more raucous like Old Trafford or Headingley mind but Edg or Trent Bridge will be ok .. whichever way you look at it it seems a trip to a Test venue is pending which'll be good

I think it all boils down to our own opinions on how much of a chance someone should be given with the players mentioned.

What about Pieterson? Would you drop him?

I would! His form is poor. No half century in 18 one day innings i think now! Not good enough! That is one whole season in the club cricket I play. That is shocking!

His form didn't look too shabby when he was player of the tournament in the 20:20 world cup. Whilst I acknowledge they are different formats Capey has proven that he is adept at this format, what with him having the highest average amongst all players who have scored over 1,000 ODI runs for England at the second highest strike-rate.

Dropping him would be sheer lunacy.

Ahem .. this is an Essex thread chaps, yet its degenerating into an England one ..

It appears Sky are now showing Hants v Middx tomorrow and not our game, its probably a fair decision as both ourselves and Sussex are virtually assured qualification while the other 2 are battling it out with Surrey for that last QF place

Its a shame we lost a few wickets at the end as we seemed well set for a 10 wicket whitewash with Ravi and Cook batting supremely, still 7 wickets is comprehensive enough and Matt Walkers little cameo (6 2 6 for the 3 balls he faced) was a fine way to see us home .. its odds on now that whoever wins our match with Sussex tomorrow will get the home QF

Another superb Essex result and im more of a Essex cricket fan than a Southend footie fan at the moment. Def want to try and get along to the 1/4's or even semi & finals day!!

Cook and Ravi set off to a lovely start and Stryis gets 52* off 26 (2 x 4's and 4 x 6's) and we chase 182 down with 4 balls to go!

ESSSSSSSSSSSSEX!

Some of you would have been wise to have kept one eye on the cricket tonight ...................rather less depressing than the football.......
...great win for Essex against Sussex at Hove. Looked as though we had let it slip, with four overs remaining.........but Styrus saw us through.

It was very similiar to their innings as they got 70 off the last 5 (thanks mainly to 48 off Wrights 4 overs!)

I really don't rate Chris Wright and sadly he keeps proving me right at the moment.

Yep, I'm amazed he keeps on getting picked for the 20:20 stuff.

4-0-48-0
3-0-35-0
4-0-45-1
4-0-39-1
3-0-33-0
4-0-46-0

That's the last six games where he's been the weakest link in the bowling.

Surely we need to start considering other options?

He got dropped for a Championship game too last week and we won. No coincidence I don't think.

I couldn't believe it when he was selected ahead of Chambers the other day.

I know Chambers' workload needs to be managed, I know bowling at the death is a tricky job that sees a bowler's figures distorted, but he's just not doing the job at the moment.

He bowls too much rubbish, especially for 20:20, he lacks control. Chambers looked frightening on the first day v Notts last week, and by all accounts was even better in the rest of the match. Seriously quick bowler, especially by our standards.
