R.I.P
I've been told that Essex have signed a left armer called Carter from Notts on a months loan. Obviously preparing the ground for the departure of Danish to the Pakistan tour.
Ravi is back for the next T20 game too - which is LIVE (for the 5th time?!) on Sky this Sunday and it kicks off around half 2! Lovely bit of cricket and then the WC finale. Lovely!
Tut tut .. lazy journalism from The General
The Oval on Friday is next sir
Maybe we should make The Oval our home ground, I don't remember when we last lost there!
Well despite a fine 100 from Ravi we were never really at the races today, and we were left relying on Somerset imploding like in the reverse fixture from a long way out, they did try bless 'em as Ravi maintained his fine match by dismissing Tresconutjob and Hildreth in the same over but it wasn't to be an they eased home .. other results mean only a completely mad set of outcomes including 3 stonking defeats this week will prevent our appearance in the QFs and Fridays (televised) game at Hove will in all likelihood be a decider as to who gets the home tie .. seeing as our record this season is 2W 4L at home and 6W 1L away i'm not that fussed if we end up 3rd or 4th and have to travel .. and here's a thought for later in the season
Saturday 14th August
The Rose Bowl T20 Semi Final: 10:30 Essex v ?? .. finishes around 1:30, mad dash up the M3
Recreation Ground L2: 3:00 Aldersh!t v SUFC, slightly less mad dash back down the M3
The Rose Bowl T20 Final: 7:30 Essex v ??
Sounds like a totally mad day, but doable surely ??
I bloody hope not.
Bopara should have been in that squad as soon as Capey was injured.
He's in and scored 45 off 16 balls with 2 4's & 4 6's came in at 7 after England hand gone from 251/1 to 280/5. England finish on 347 from their 50 overs.
I don't rate Luke Wright.
I prefer Ravi but I have seen him play so much more. Not too sure about Ravi's bowling. International standard I just can't see him making the grade particularly off of his shorter run up.
Batting - Ravi all day.
I see what you mean .. however Ravi has never really been backed as an international bowler, yesterday could've been a prime example .. despite taking a wicket his opening over went for 10, he's had that before and is usually taken out of the attack however he was allowed to bowl his quota and he ends up with 4-38
All that into consideration i'd still rather we have a successful Essex with Cook, Bopara etc than a successful England
With England fielding 'specialist' bowlers from 7-11, whoever bats at 6 just has to chip in with a few overs if necessary, along with Collingwood. For that reason Id like to see him there to strengthen the batting in the longer form of limited overs cricket.
THat said, if England keep messing him around then it can only be Essex's gain (likewise James Foster).
