The Essex CCC Thread

My mate is there today, I promised him a wicketfest!!

Walker 24 off 26? Who woke him up!

Something of a collapse and we're 300/7. Would be nice to get the lead above 300 and beyond.

I'm a bit confused... according to Cricinfo, Fozzie is captain for this game; and it also appears that Pettini has come in at no. 8.

If Petts is not captain, (a) why is he in the side at all; and (b) what on earth is he doing coming in at 8, bearing in mind he's a batsman?

Pettini resigned the captaincy a few days back, and Foster is now officially the skipper. In his last few Championship games Pettini batted at 7, in this innings Chambers came in as night watchman hence Pettini coming in at 8. Hopefully relinquishing the captaincy may help his game.

I dont know if any Essex fans can confirm the game for me, but I seem to remember watching a semi final in the 90's (may have been the one that carried over to the next day - Glamorgan?) and we had a guy called Hodgson(?) batting at 9, didnt bowl and didnt even have the same colour helmet as everyone else....seemed the biggest case of 'make up the numbers' Id seen.....or is my memory playing tricks...

You're not thinking of Mike Garnham are you? He always had a different coloured helmet (oo'err missus), he was a wicket keeper but batted down the order. I remember a game against Lancs where Essex where not many for 8 chasing about 270 and Garnham along with possibly Mark Ilott and definitely John Childs guided us to a most unlikely win. IIRC we played Glamorgan in the next round and Ilott had a huge spat with Robert Croft.

Did Petts say why he was relinquishing the captaincy...?
