Just looking at the county scene... I see we're involved in an interesting game at The Rose Bowl. Hants have just declared in their second innings at 311/7, leaving us a nominal 327 for victory - but on a deteriorating pitch.

We're now 7/2. Yoinks. Westley and Mickleburgh the men out. Should make for an interesting afternoon, to see if we can hang on!

Looks like my namesake did OK in the first innings - 99 - although off 228 deliveries... painfully slow. Some similar crease-occupation this avo would not go amiss!

In other recent games, I see that we beat Holland by only 1 run in the Clydesale Bank 40 competition (with a very poor showing by RtD - tsk tsk, split loyalties, Ryan!); we lost to K*nt in the T20 at Chelmsford; and a couple of draws in the County Championship at Old Trafford and Trent Bridge - draws which, in general, we've had the better of.

And, in other news, Danish is free to play for us, notwithstanding the spot-fixing allegations.

There was a story doing the rounds that the ECB had suspended Kaneria, and Essex are playing him in defiance of this edict. Although a quick scan through and I can't see any evidence of this, but he was mysteriously taken ill on the eve of the K*nt T20 game.
 
99/6... although I think we've got Mother Nature to thank, potentially, for a match-saving bit of crease occupation on our behalf, in the form of rain!
 
It's been raining down in Bournemouth for 3 hours. I was amazed to see they were still playing an hour ago!
 
We clung on for the draw here in case anyone missed it

Having had the better of draws versus title chasers Lancs and Notts recently i cant help but feel disappointed we didn't do much better in this match

Ravi batted 2 and a half hours which helped, and Fzzie batted a long time considering the runs he made.

We will probably fill one of the relegation places, however we've had the better of Durham, Lancs & Notts all matches affected by the weather when Essex were in a good position. In view of that I'm quite happy to see us get a draw. I really thought Essex would be whipping boys in this division but they've been a lot more competive than I thought they would be.
 
T20 on at the moment against Glamorgan, a big win could see us move right up the table and we currently have them at 65/8!
 
A bizarre experience, what with the Welsh commentary. On the other hand great that Essex yn ennil o 9 wiced
