The Essex CCC Thread

BBC says 359-5 CLOSE............WOW!!!! that was some run chase.........WE WON THEN?
and are PROMOTED! Doesn't make up for the disappointment of the afternoon but helps a bit.

By my posts you may well understand that whilst I generally keep an eye on the Essex score and results ..........it's not been that close an eye. I was, personally, surprised to see them even in with a sniff of promotion when it came to the last game. Many congratulations to them, on today's performance, they deserved it.......will they have to strengthen the side next season, in order not to come straight back down again?

We'll be ****ed next year, but great performance and finally we are out of Div 2. Tendo needs to bat higher and be given more responsibility, he's clearly one of our best.

Where's that mug Stokes saying we were going to finish 5th !!!!

Nice 101* from Pettini today in an easy Pro40 win at Yorkshire (i must admit i didnt really follow the match as i was watching England)

So 185 undefeated from 2 innings to end the season for our captain, i bet he wishes there was another month to go !!!

Anyone heard anything about who our overseas players are going to be next season?

I heard something about an international batting all-rounder for 20:20 and a world class spinner for when Dani is with Pakistan. Anyone got any names?

Can't be too long a short list for the 'world class spinner'! Chawla, Singh, Murali, Mendis, Vettori.....?!!

Has any county signed Shakib-al, the Bangladeshi skipper. For the past two years whenever Ive seen Bangladesh score cards he either top scores with the bat or takes the most wickets....often both!

I think that Shakib has been signed by Worcestershire as their overseas player after Bangladesh have toured here this summer.

Be interesting how he does, as he does look a good prospect and could be a good signing there. Also good for Bangladesh to get some of their players playing county cricket. Not quite the finishing school for overseas players that it used to be but is good their development.

Vettori was linked heavily last season but I read on telext that Nez Zealand India and I think Sri Lanka are all playing at the same time of the year which rules out a few of the decent players....

I think the world class spinner was more aspirational than anything else. I think we may have signed the batting all-rounder for 20:20 though, although I still have no idea who it is.

I also appear to miss the fact that we've signed Chris Silverwood as a bowling coach.

I missed the Chris Silverwood appointment, I didn't hear of this until I saw an item on teletext last night.

I don't think we've signed anyone specifically for T20 as yet, I think counties are allowed two overseas players for T20 this season.

People still use teletext?!! :stunned:

Had a read of the Essex CCC forum last night and a name that makes sense for the T20 stuff is Scott Styris.

I don't think they are going to be under-rating his 50 over batting now after a couple of decent knocks in bangladesh.

Shame.

Good luck to the lad.

Shame it isnt more like football where the internationals play for their club because it could encourage a wider following for sure.

With Strauss back in the summer and after Keisweitter's ton today, where does that leave Cook!? Unless they go with Keisweitter at 3?!

Pieterson is the man to chuck out at the moment. did they bowl him today to justify his selection. Top ton by the way.

I think winning the Ashes, largely in his absense, will have left a dent in his ego and perception as being top dog. I hope the sucker comes good again, because we wont win down under without a big series from him.
