The Essex CCC Thread

Not neccessarily, as Derbys need to win as well, so as long as we can avoid the follow-on (a long way away at the moment), Petts can negotiate a last day run-chase.

Derbyshire: 474 (128.3 overs)
Essex: 37-2 (13.0 overs)

Gloucestershire: 253-4 (60.5 overs)
Kent: 264 (62.0 overs)

Northamptonshire: 600-8 (116.2 overs)
Leicestershire: 77-1 (20.0 overs)

Surrey: 430 (122.4 overs)
Glamorgan: 24-0 (10.0 overs)

Points gained atm -

Northants 5 (176)
Derbys 5 (169)
Essex 2 (176)
Gloucs 4 (167)
Glam 2 (166)

The worst thing about the Northants scoreline is the speed at which they scored 600 - didn't even take them 4 sessions in terms of overs bowled. Why isn't Bopara playing? I would have thought England would want to improve the chances of him getting Div1 cricket.

Does anyone know what the e-mail address is for BBC Essex cricket. Haven't been able to get their commentary all day on the web, so I'm having to listen to the Derbyshire commentary, and the guy doing it has the dullest voice ever. think I'm going to start hacking away at my wrists soon :headbang:

Derbyshire: 474 (128.3 overs)

Tea

Northamptonshire: 600-8 (116.2 overs)
Leicestershire: 77-1 (20.0 overs)

Score hasn't updated for ages....

Surrey: 430 (122.4 overs)
Glamorgan: 24-0 (10.0 overs)

Hasn't he gone to South Africa with the England squad?

Two. K*nt are already up as Champions, which leaves about half the division (but, in truth, Essex, Derbyshire and Northants) vying for second spot. I'd say Northants look best placed of all of us so far - although it was probably Essex's spot to lose going into the game.

:thump:

I think I look at it in this way. Northants will certainly wrap up a victory tomorrow ......
.......surely, only rain could stop them. If we can achieve a victory from the position in which we find ourselves................we would certainly merit promotion.

Tricky decision for Petts today. Does he declare as soon as we are past the follow-on, and try to negotiate a last day run-chase with Rogers, bearing in mind that Derbys will have nothing to play for. Or does he try and bat to 600, and then try and bowl them out cheaply tomorrow afternoon. My money would be on the declaration....

Essex 239-3 off 74.5 overs

Westley 130*, Petts 1*. MtS out for 75.

Gloucestershire: 552 (123.4 overs)
Kent: 264 (62.0 overs)

Northamptonshire: 600-8 (116.2 overs)
Leicestershire: 218 & 103-6 (28.0 overs)

Surrey: 430 (122.4 overs)
Glamorgan: 271-0 (59.0 overs)
Close

Assuming Northants win, are Derby still able to go up if they win? If so, Id imagine there will be some interesting declarations tomorrow lunch time to give both sides a chance of winning.,...
