That’s fair enough sounds like your saying lomas is of that’s a shame gotta trust the team I suppose though
No I'm not suggesting that at all. There will be situations where we talk to a player, all seems like it's going to happen then a number of things can crop up (new target becomes available, target gets a better offer elsewhere, target/club changes their mind, injuries, meddling agents or many other things that may perhaps be out of the amigo's control) that can change the direction of any proposed deal. This is not unusual and happens all the time. The interest in Lomas is clear (or was?), but whether that ends up with a deal getting over the line, we will just have to wait and see.

We will have many options for every position we are looking to recruit for. If one door closes another will open. But sometimes we have to wait for the first domino to fall to set things in motion.

This is #ShrimperZone, we don't do 'Wait and see'.

Maybe they are worth taking a waiting risk on. Even if we only pulled one of Neal or Lopata, it would be worth the risk.
It's a risk and worse case scenario we don't get any of the loans and we are back to signing old players last payday and crocks just because all the decent ones have been signed up whilst we have been playing the waiting game

When does Sheffield United's pre season end anyway?

I understand that concern, especially based upon our previous recruitment but provided that the footballing department's hands are not tied, I can't see it happening like that. I think we have some of the very best available individuals in the right areas, with their contacts, ideas and experience, especially for the league we're in.

If we had a yearning for old crocks etc, we would have held on to the likes of Atko, Dunne Kenny Clark and Abu Agogo as they all fit your criteria. I'm guessing Sheffield Utd's pre season time table will be very similar to ours, but Maher isn't stupid, he realises the risks of waiting and will have other plans in place if it's looking dodgy. Couple that with the fact the he will have Stan and John Still giving him earache if he misses out on gems and I think I'm happy to let Maher and those around him do their job.

I feel we should move on from lapata, that includes recruitment department and fans. Chances of lapata arriving on season long loan or permanent is highly unlikely. Lapata is probably eyeing up efl club to ply his trade, Plenty of league 2/1 clubs will no doubt have him on there radar. I don't know much about lomas apart from what iv read, a player who was in team of the year in the National league north also highly rated by others. He worth a punt in my opinion and if he does well we could potentially sell him on for substantial profit down the line.

I would take both Neal and Lopata 100%, however I would take Brunt in a different scenario (if we really needed his position)

I'd happily take Gubbins back, he settled extremely well after a turbulent few games, was very composed.

Who is Lapata?

I am pleased you play no part in our recruitment process.

I honestly can’t believe I’m reading people wouldn’t want Neal back this season.

He put in one the best CM performances I’ve ever seen at the hall against Bromley and he never had a bad game for us so commanding and level headed for a young player.

We would be extremely lucky and it would be as good a signing as Lopata IMO
It was evident when Neal wasn't in the team too, he conducted the hell out of our midfield.

I've asked my Sheffield Utd chums what they think on the loan situation for all three Sheffield Utd lads. Responses so far are below. Now I know that they are no more wise than us on movements, but they are nearer to the Sheffield centre than we are.

I can see Neal returning. I think a loan in the football league is next for Lopata

I can definitely see us loaning more out to you next season although unsure if I’d be the full season. Can see Brunt potentially going for half a season to regain some form. Can definitely see Neal. Also got a few other positions as well such as RB with Seriki, GK with Dewhurst and potentially even one of the players who are rated extremely highly such as Peck or Arblaster- both midfielders playing for England (u17 and u18) but really young so maybe not ready just yet

Arblaster may head out for the first half of the season. That'd be a cracking move for him.

Lopata in particular and Neal will need to play at a higher level if they are to progress. The players along with Brunt benefited from playing regularly at Southend. The fact Currie is there and knows them helps and should lead to us sending you more of our prospects.

If you're looking for like for like players Nickosen Gomis 20 years old LCB 6 foot 2 was playing National league North with Bradford PA last season. Can also play LB and gets up the pitch a very good prospect who played in the same u23 team as the others. Oliver Arblaster DM. Only 18 years old and not loaned out yet but highly thought of and recently scored winner for England U18's.

No disrespect to Southend but lopata, Neal and possibly Brunt have already proven themselves at this level would expect us to be looking at placing them in div 2 or possibly 1. Can however see us placing other young players with them.

edit seems we posted at a similar time.

It's a dangerous game imo, especially at a time when we seem to have gotten our scouting and recruitment house in order at long last. By the time we've waited for the parent club to decide whether they want to send those players out on loan to us, our 2nd, 3rd and 4th choices will have been snapped up and if our advances for the 3 loanees are rejected then we're fishing in a small pond all of a sudden.

It's a balancing act and I don't envy those having to make these calls, but not sure that this is the best way to go about things. Lomas is highly thought of, has bags of potential and is being sniffed around by other clubs. Get him signed up and then hope to bag one or both (I think we need 5 natural centre halves if we're playing 3 at the back) of Łopata/Gubbins down the line.
Completely agree with this. Lomas is not a player short of attention put it that way, and I know other clubs have been in contact. Would be a shame to miss out. Likely be a good investment for the club too, destined to play higher.
Disagree with Lomas unlikely to start immediately due to needing half a season to adjust. Yes I understand the jump from part time to full time football is a lot but if we signed him now then with a good 4 week pre -season under his belt I think he’ll be ready come the start of the season. The lad is obviously a quality player judging by his defence stats last season so don’t think the step up would be that much of an issue for him at all.
Again, completely agree. People are forgetting this is a kid that had a three year pro contract at Norwich and trained with the first team at times when they were in the Premier League and top of the Championship. Played every minute of 40/42 league games last season. With a full pre-season behind him as well he will hit the ground running. If he's signing with us, it'll be as a player in the starting 11.
Lomas played mainly in a back three as either the right or left, but never the middle, so I don't think we would be waiting on Lopata or Gubbins.

He also had a few games as a right back/wing back, so he is a little versatile.

I'm not ITK, but I don't think the potential loans of Lopata or Gubbins will decide whether or not we get Lomas. He is still young (turns 22 in October) and will have potential to improve. It might be different if we were looking at a 30-something year old who might have 1 or 2 seasons of his peak left in him, but we clearly aren't thinking of that strategy.
Lomas played at times in the centre when I watched Brackley over the season. Albeit it was predominantly their captain Gaz Dean. That said, he is a player comfortable in any position across the back four. When on loan in the NL South from Norwich the season before he regularly played at left back. I don't think where he can play across a back three is necessarily an issue here.

Talks have stalled because it appears there is interest in other centre half targets and Maher is reviewing the situation - take it from me.

The recruitment team have been extremely active, but some of the targets are quite complicated, not to mention other clubs are also in the mix. A major factor is many players are on holiday currently also, so a lot can change in the next few weeks. It's highly unlikely any loan deals will be tied up until near the season starts either so it's a case of chill out, enjoy the sunny weather and wait and see....
