Don't think we will get lopta,he's a year older than neal,so sheff Utd will want him in the efl.but good chance for Neil until Christmas
Sheffield will want him playing week in week out, in EFL league 1 he might be a regular starter, not a given. The difference in standard between league 2 and National league is minimal, and they know that he was happy here, and that might tip the balance in our favour.

I am hopeful that a number of clubs will recognise how good we are at bringing players on. It would be nice to hear players with great potential being offered rather than some of the last chance saloon players we've had in the past. Both guys from Sheffield are "ones for the future" for them. Another good spell regularly with us will help them develop further. But there will be others in the Championship level out there too.

Those not wanting to retain Neal need to give their heads a wobble.

Brunt was an excellent loanee, but Neal was exactly what we needed, and we still need. Him and Atkinson as a two often over ran other midfield threes. Neal has energy, tenacity, a drive, and a real work ethic.

We’ve actually registered our interest in all three of the Sheffield lads, as well as Gubbins.

If we could take just one of the four loanees, it would be a tough choice between Neal and Lopata for me.

I know people don’t like to hear it, because it’s always an “excuse” as to why we aren’t signing players, but Brunt is on holiday too.

I’ve not heard much about Gubbins since the end of the season, but have on the Sheffield United trio. Time will tell.

Hi agree there's nothing between EFL 2and the National league, but clubs look at players cvs,and they would take someone with 25 games bottom team league 2 over someone with 25 games top end team National league,That's a fact,So let's hope there's no one in the football league that wants to take a chance on young lads,Also football league clubs don't take two many young lads on load because there's no money for the club with selling fee's etc.so let's hope no league clubs come and we get both lopta and Neal.🤞🤞🤞

Agree. Not only did he star on the pitch, he has an infectious energetic personality off it and no doubt is great in the dressing room.

What may tip the balance is that NL loanees can be recalled outside of transfer windows whereas L2 loanees can’t.

But even if we get any of the three Sheffield Utd lads in on loan it is incredibly unlikely that they’ll still be here at the end of the season. They would give a huge boost in the short term but this needs to be weighed against the inevitable disruption when they are recalled and that it might be harder to replace them mid-season than now.

Neal is a fantastic player and, by all accounts, a real leader on and off the pitch too. There are reports that he is always on the winning side in 6-a-side games in training because of his enthusiasm and drive.

I would take any of the Sheffield United trio back in a heartbeat - not only were they fantastic players but they seemed like fantastic people off the pitch too and a real positive influence at the club.

With a bit of luck Darren curry will be able to talk sheffield into allowing the sheffield lads back into our club .To allow them to bring thn on to be better players .And sheffiield should know there players will get more game time with us rather than sitting on another clubs bench .

Good point, but if they came and we were top end of the table and did get promoted, then I think we would have a good chance of getting them on a permanent deals.

Hopefully they also registered an interest in Harry Boyes with Sheffield United whilst they were at it.

My experience of the National League is that loan players don’t very often return at the start of a new season, to the same club that they’ve already had a loan with. Loans, as we are aware have exceeded their original length, but that’s within the same season. This I guess isn’t any different from any of the other leagues.

Re Sheff Utd.. The relationship worked well for both parties last year. When they needed Lopata back as cover - they got a match fit, confident player who was ready to go at short notice..

I would like to see this relationship grow, ideally with the names mentioned, but if not then maybe they could send some other players our way. Having 2 or 3 at the same club has lots of benefits when watching their progress, some togetherness, etc. We have tried this in the past unsuccessfully but with our management team i have more confidence.

An update on Louis Lomas to put to bed rumours or any concerns as to why he is yet to sign:

It appears, consistent with Kev's comments in the Echo, that the club have made enquiries as to signing Lopata and Gubbins on loan. Kevin was away on holiday whilst the club met with Louis and his agent. Louis was then on holiday during the period in which Kev returned, and Louis has only recently got back. Nonetheless it appears that Kevin is yet to give the final seal of approval on this one, and seems more keen in signing the two ex-loanees. It's a slow burner this one and dependant on a lot of things - risking another club jumping in IMO.

Personally would be surprised if we do manage to get Lopata back.

Bewilders me that we'd go for Gubbins on a loan deal rather than signing a young talented player on a permanent deal who has been earning rave reviews, was an ever present in a team that conceded 23 goals in 42 games with 28 clean sheets, and was in the team of the year for the league below. Would be a good investment, but there we go.

Meanwhile looking for that post by Simply Shrimpers that says this signing was imminent a while back 👀

We do need more than one centre back so I wouldn't be surprised if both, even 3 were on the cards.
