Ryan Seager to Dorking after bagging 25 goals in NLS for Hungerford last season. Good sogning for them. He was one I was hoping we'd be looking at ad an alternative if the Rutherford deal didn't come off.

Really? I can’t.

Although they went 1-0 up, they looked pretty poor in the FA Trophy against us last season and we weren’t playing well at the time. Assume they’re not full time as well.

I think they may struggle at the step up and additional travelling as well as playing full time professional sides game after game.

We struggled to adapt coming down from League 2, I think coming in the other direction is a bigger jump.

ANYWAY - let’s get back on topic now and leave this thread for transfer rumours about players we may be signing. Plenty of other threads to discuss other teams!

I’d say Ben Wynter is the current main target, Louis Lomas and then maybe Shepherd Murombedzi although that seems to have gone quiet.

Wouldn't say Rutherford is completely dead in the water yet either. Whilst Dorking's capture of Ryan Seager gives them a potent forward line containing last season's National League South top and 2nd top goalscorers, it could equally mean that they are open/expecting to lose Rutherford.

I am not so sure about Rutherford, his medical issues are a sticking point from what I have heard.

Teams can and do benefit from older heads, just not when the whole first team is rammed with 30 pluses who are all injury prone. Some older players like Clarke, Fortune and Barrett for example really looked after themselves and smashed out the games well into their twighlight.

If we signed Cheek for example I'd not be unhappy, great scoring record, decent playing time - not the Luke Hyam/Michael Kightly/ Dougie Freedman dead on their feet for years but let's give them stupid contract philosophy we once had

I believe its more a case of us signing players who would be able and capable of playing in the EFL.

Rutherford would struggle for insurance at league level, possible even full time pro in this league.

Dorking are part time and should that change he may have to leave.

Do we think we may look at any academy players being released by the top academy sides? I see Liverpool have released 3, one of whom is from Harlow so may fancy a move down south.

I am not saying this should be our model but wondering if we are also looking at these options?

No we don't have the budget for these sort of players,when leaving top academy's they probably have not even played one game of mens football,they are 2 to 3 years away from being physically ready to play in this league.would be better with a couple of loans for u23 players like lopta,brunt,Neil last season.
