There has been a lot of these references to crowd size and I just don’t get it. On that basis a lot of Prem players should be playing for Sunderland because they have bigger crowds? I’d have thought players look for the best side to play for and if it is a smaller club is punching above their weight then it must feel even better!
I guess dan Mooney's comments suggest in some cases otherwise. It depends. Not sure a stadium full with 25k feels massively underwhelming compayeed to one with 45k. And probably both clubs fill away ends or at least take plenty.

However I think there is a big difference between playing in front of 7,000 verses 1,000. Totally different atmosphere. And when you play away it tends to be even more pronounced. With us you might get 500-1000 cheering you on. A club getting home gates of a 1000 probably take about 20 to many away games. Little motivation there...

Mooney I think having experienced our fans home and away, the support for him was a big factor. Kelly might not care if he's playing for Solihull at Torquay and he only has 9 away fans to wave at..

Fair comments. I am just not as convinced that the pull of playing in front of 6000 vs 2000 would be that significant. But I appreciate what you have said and that it might be a key factor for some players.

Kelly about to be announced at Solihull so we can finally put it to bed.
At least we’ll be able to move on. With that in mind, I noticed that Michael Cheek was left out of the Bromley team on Wednesday causing much head scratching among both Bromley fans.

And done. Gutted in truth. When I heard we were interested a number of weeks back, this was the one I hoped we would get done. But we couldn’t. That’s where we are. We move on. Solihull now have a forward line of Kelly, Dallas and Sbarra. Outrageously good. Hopefully we can find another top quality option.

I personally think if it were a choice between the two then Lopata is more required over the whole season. Striker wise I think we are really only lacking a bit of depth short term but goals wise I think we are looking potentially strong already with Mooney, Powell cutting in off the wide positions and Dalby hopefully building on his goals from last season.

But has anyone ITK actually stated it could only be one or the other as would still like to see Kelly as well, budget permitting?
I don't think it was ever a case of one or the other - Kev would've loved both, I'm sure .. but some things are out of our control. We're sticking to our guns and not paying out silly money (money we likely don't have anyway), or being held to ransom .. this has got to be a good thing.

Imagine .. Kelly and Lopata added to this this current squad - would've been pretty awesome but in the new regime we trust. Let's see what else they have up their sleeve..

Before last season Sam Dalby's highest tally in a campaign was one. Last season he scored nine. I would suggest it is entirely within the realms of possibility that he might score fifteen to twenty in the coming season.
As long as he continues to improve, and, we also improve as a team, it could happen.
From the little I have seen of the pre season friendlies we look like a team likely to score a lot of goals.

So come on then. We missed out on Kelly. What other suggestions do we have that fit into the decent NL striker category that we could realistically go for?

Cheek. I’d be more than happy with that. But I fear we won’t get near his wage demands.

Who else?

If Powell and Mooney continue the way they have started you would like to think so and also thought Dalby got 10 sure he got one in the cup

I am sure Josh Kelly will be excited to score in front of 30 Solihull fans in North Bank, instead of playing away in front of potential 1k plus away fans at Maidstone, Dorking, Woking, Dagenham, Barnet, Wealdstone & Boreham etc.
Give it up on the crowd numbers @Murkey_Mouse, they mean absolutely nothing in the big picture of things. It's all really about how much the signing on fee is, how much wages there are and how long the contract is together with add ons. That's what pays the mortgage and gives a degree of security to a very fragile profession. Large crowd numbers are garnish which is nice to have once the basics are sorted.

I’d be very happy with Cheek. Excellent record at this level just not sure if the profile fits due to his age as it seems all players signed thus far are younger. Having said that again his dad is a fan and I’m sure he could give us a good 3 years at least. I’m certain with the way we are setting up he will give us a very positive return.
