Rumours have begun to circulate on social media that at least a couple of National League clubs are interested in taking Kelly, who netted 17 goals in all competitions last season, off the Magpies hands.
The player still has a year to run on his contract and any club looking to prize him away this summer would have to stump up some cash.
One of the clubs thought to be interested in signing Kelly is Southend United, with the Southend Echo reporting that they were ‘pushing hard’ to sign a forward who netted ‘double figures for his club last season’.
Southend are keen to bolster their attacking options with Ryan Murphy and Harry Cardwell both set to miss the start of the season through injury.
However, Devonshire said this morning the striker wouldn't be joining the Shrimpers.
“I can't really say too much, but the Southend thing, I can tell you now is a no,” said Devonshire. “I'll probably say something more later in the week.
“We would need compensation because he's under contract, but that's all I can say at the moment.”
Kelly was one of the standout players for the Magpies last season, scoring 17 times in all competitions and shouldering the scoring burden in an often-challenging season. In recognition of his efforts, he claimed the golden boot, manager’s, and players' player of the season awards.
United claimed their fourth win of pre-season with an entertaining 4-3 victory over Potters Bar Town last night (Wednesday). Kelly wasn't part of a small Maidenhead squad that travelled to the Lantern Stadium; however, he did feature for the Magpies in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Brentford’s B team.
The Magpies twice came from behind in the first half at Potters Bar, with Shawn McCoulsky scoring both goals from the penalty spot.
The visitors fell behind once more before a 25-yard rocket from Charlee Adams drew them level in the 70th minute. Emile Acquah then grabbed the winner, dinking the ball over the keeper in the 88th minute to seal an entertaining win.
Reflecting on their latest run-out, Devonshire said: “The pitch wasn't the greatest, it was bumpy, and they were very physical. Again, there were some pluses and minuses. We didn't defend too well at corners, they played route one and we found that difficult at times. But we showed some character and ended up scoring a few goals as well.
“We've still got half the team out with niggles, and I'd like to think three or four of them will be back for Saturday (at Hungerford Town) and there's probably only one that might miss the first game of the season.
“There are things to work on, but our fitness levels seem ok, so I'm pleased with that, but we won't know until the season starts and we begin with a team in form (Notts County away on August 6) who are beating everyone at the moment, including Leicester City. They've been having some good results but there are no points at stake.
“Pre-season isn't about the results; it's about getting minutes into the legs of the players and getting ready for the start of the season.”
