Transfer News and Gossip Summer/Autumn Transfer Targets/Rumours Thread 2022

The only way I see Kelly at sufc is if he turns down sulihull, if I'm honest I can't see him doing. I have bad feeling we are going to regret not signing him.

Rumours have begun to circulate on social media that at least a couple of National League clubs are interested in taking Kelly, who netted 17 goals in all competitions last season, off the Magpies hands.

The player still has a year to run on his contract and any club looking to prize him away this summer would have to stump up some cash.

One of the clubs thought to be interested in signing Kelly is Southend United, with the Southend Echo reporting that they were ‘pushing hard’ to sign a forward who netted ‘double figures for his club last season’.

Southend are keen to bolster their attacking options with Ryan Murphy and Harry Cardwell both set to miss the start of the season through injury.

However, Devonshire said this morning the striker wouldn't be joining the Shrimpers.

“I can't really say too much, but the Southend thing, I can tell you now is a no,” said Devonshire. “I'll probably say something more later in the week.

“We would need compensation because he's under contract, but that's all I can say at the moment.”

Kelly was one of the standout players for the Magpies last season, scoring 17 times in all competitions and shouldering the scoring burden in an often-challenging season. In recognition of his efforts, he claimed the golden boot, manager’s, and players' player of the season awards.

United claimed their fourth win of pre-season with an entertaining 4-3 victory over Potters Bar Town last night (Wednesday). Kelly wasn't part of a small Maidenhead squad that travelled to the Lantern Stadium; however, he did feature for the Magpies in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Brentford’s B team.

The Magpies twice came from behind in the first half at Potters Bar, with Shawn McCoulsky scoring both goals from the penalty spot.

The visitors fell behind once more before a 25-yard rocket from Charlee Adams drew them level in the 70th minute. Emile Acquah then grabbed the winner, dinking the ball over the keeper in the 88th minute to seal an entertaining win.

Reflecting on their latest run-out, Devonshire said: “The pitch wasn't the greatest, it was bumpy, and they were very physical. Again, there were some pluses and minuses. We didn't defend too well at corners, they played route one and we found that difficult at times. But we showed some character and ended up scoring a few goals as well.

“We've still got half the team out with niggles, and I'd like to think three or four of them will be back for Saturday (at Hungerford Town) and there's probably only one that might miss the first game of the season.

“There are things to work on, but our fitness levels seem ok, so I'm pleased with that, but we won't know until the season starts and we begin with a team in form (Notts County away on August 6) who are beating everyone at the moment, including Leicester City. They've been having some good results but there are no points at stake.

“Pre-season isn't about the results; it's about getting minutes into the legs of the players and getting ready for the start of the season.”
No doubt due to our appalling reputation thanks to one man. Can’t really blame the clubs for choosing other clubs over us to sell players to with our shocking history over the past few years.
If you was the selling club would you want to do business with us and risk not getting paid out?
Tom, Stan, John and the management team are doing a great job with the recruitment but the latest embargo news earlier this week has no doubt just dented that hard work yet again.

the best line in Devonshire's article is this, and this alone speaks volumes of our sorry arse club

“We would need compensation because he's under contract, but that's all I can say at the moment.”

Too soon to say this is dead, until he has signed for another club. It looks rocky, but that doesn’t mean that whatever Devonshire’s objection is can’t be overcome - it probably needs a full fee paid up front. So, I guess it depends how badly we want him and who our other options are.

he says something along the lines of, in regards to Southend that's a No, I cant say anything more at this time, then says the line I just posted
Right but you put 'the best line in Devonshire's article is this, and this alone speaks volumes of our sorry arse club'

A line in which has no relation to SUFC what so ever so what's for the 'sorry arse club' comment. Not sure why you're insulting the club you support for something that has no evidence of direct relevancy.

alright babes... calm yourself lets not get yourself worked up by me.

Like others have said, this transfer could be split into two: One side is the personal side of things, with family connections to SUFC etc - The other side being business/money related.

Usually, but not always, the business side of things will come out on top as the decider of a transfer. Like I say that's not always the case, but usually business/money/wages/being paid on time comes first...

BUT, you never know...
