So surely this is the end of the Kelly saga. If a bid has been accepted and he is going elsewhere we move on!
Not necessarily - as mentioned we are up against a few clubs and it could be the case this offer meets there minimum upfront requirements. They could still be negotiating with other clubs and they accept 4 offers they are happy with and then it comes down to personal terms for the player, player preferences etc.

One of the testing things about being a mod on the Zone is that I don't get to put anyone on ignore and thus I get to see everything. Sometimes some of the comments make me very angry on a personal level but I mustn't say anything out loud so instead I just think to myself - 'if people think my Club is that **** they can always just **** right off and support another Club'. Good job I'm not allowed to say stuff like that out loud or I'd get into trouble.

Why can’t you say that ?

Article about Kelly's future (unfortunately hidden behind a paywall). Anyone subscribe to the Maidenhead Advertiser?

Rumours have begun to circulate on social media that at least a couple of National League clubs are interested in taking Kelly, who netted 17 goals in all competitions last season, off the Magpies hands.

The player still has a year to run on his contract and any club looking to prize him away this summer would have to stump up some cash.

One of the clubs thought to be interested in signing Kelly is Southend United, with the Southend Echo reporting that they were ‘pushing hard’ to sign a forward who netted ‘double figures for his club last season’.

Southend are keen to bolster their attacking options with Ryan Murphy and Harry Cardwell both set to miss the start of the season through injury.

However, Devonshire said this morning the striker wouldn't be joining the Shrimpers.

“I can't really say too much, but the Southend thing, I can tell you now is a no,” said Devonshire. “I'll probably say something more later in the week.

“We would need compensation because he's under contract, but that's all I can say at the moment.”

Kelly was one of the standout players for the Magpies last season, scoring 17 times in all competitions and shouldering the scoring burden in an often-challenging season. In recognition of his efforts, he claimed the golden boot, manager’s, and players' player of the season awards.

United claimed their fourth win of pre-season with an entertaining 4-3 victory over Potters Bar Town last night (Wednesday). Kelly wasn't part of a small Maidenhead squad that travelled to the Lantern Stadium; however, he did feature for the Magpies in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Brentford’s B team.

The Magpies twice came from behind in the first half at Potters Bar, with Shawn McCoulsky scoring both goals from the penalty spot.

The visitors fell behind once more before a 25-yard rocket from Charlee Adams drew them level in the 70th minute. Emile Acquah then grabbed the winner, dinking the ball over the keeper in the 88th minute to seal an entertaining win.

Reflecting on their latest run-out, Devonshire said: “The pitch wasn't the greatest, it was bumpy, and they were very physical. Again, there were some pluses and minuses. We didn't defend too well at corners, they played route one and we found that difficult at times. But we showed some character and ended up scoring a few goals as well.

“We've still got half the team out with niggles, and I'd like to think three or four of them will be back for Saturday (at Hungerford Town) and there's probably only one that might miss the first game of the season.

“There are things to work on, but our fitness levels seem ok, so I'm pleased with that, but we won't know until the season starts and we begin with a team in form (Notts County away on August 6) who are beating everyone at the moment, including Leicester City. They've been having some good results but there are no points at stake.

“Pre-season isn't about the results; it's about getting minutes into the legs of the players and getting ready for the start of the season.”

Thanks Smiffy. Onto the next target I suppose

Thanks @Smiffy - that seems to lend weight to @Magnum PI 's point that it's been blocked by Maidenhead.

Interestingly someone who seems to be related to Josh Kelly (perhaps his Dad?) liked these two tweets, so maybe it's not 100% dead....

Don’t read too much into my tweet at the top, just wanted to know more about how he’d fit in if we did get him, and from someone who clearly knows a lot about our league :)

That's a real shame but at least confirms what @Magnum PI said and we can move on. Does seem strange to me how they're so keen not to sell to us, I wonder if Devonshire will follow up on his promise to say something more later in the week.

Perhaps that will be more on where Kelly ends up. Solihull looking the likely destination unless some "magic" happens and we are the scorers of a 90th minute winner for once.

Your private thoughts mirror those of most supporters. The thing with being a supporter is some believe there is a hierarchical system. Many, who attend every game, think they are superior. Some in the know types think they are better supporters because they have connections. The truth is there is no status requirement or IQ level that determines how much you love the club. Our fan base differs more than a bag of Liquorice Allsorts.

I am sure I have spouted some utter b**locks on here but no one loves the club more than me. Being a supporter of the club does not make me an expert on the club and I often wince at remarks made by self-appointed experts on the Zone but it is all a part of lifes rich tapestry. Often reading, what appears to be a pile of poo, a nugget of gold can be seen. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and often they are bereft of facts or even commonsense. The Zone would be very sterile without the contribution of nonsense and it's only nonsense in the opinion of others.

Love the club and you are a supporter even when your comments are unsupportive. Long may that continue Zoners!

Assuming we have missed out is not the reaction to events a little otp?
Even Arsenal and Man U sometimes miss out on their chosen targets.
Once there is interest in a player from a few clubs is it realistic to expect that a club in our situation is going to outbid the competition? Is it even desirable?
Offering money we do not have, or, find difficult in sourcing, could even contribute to being embargoed down the line!
Finding a player who can contribute almost as much at half the cost might be the way to go.
