Very interesting. I guess that gives us an edge in terms of competition, at least from Josh’s perspective anyway. Sounds like the Maidenhead chairman wants most of the money upfront and doesn’t trust Ron to pay in instalments.

Clearly Josh has a lot to consider. Must be great to have competing options. From a football perspective I think he'd have to go a long way to beat our coaching team.
You say that, but Neal Ardley is also really well respected in the game. I thought Solihull were really impressive last season. If they are also in for him, we will find it hard to compete. They play in a similar way to Maidenhead. Big man, little man combination. They seem to have a lot of financial clout and were successful last season too.

If Chesterfield are another club after him we will also find it really hard to compete.

So if we somehow pull this off, it would be a fantastic signing!

Interesting about his dad. If we can find out his favourite player and say his son reminds us of him then it should be in the bag. I'm going for Billy Best.

That's ****. Would of been a decent signing...... clearly Maidenhead want money upfront which sulihull can provide.
I think that's the issue, but let's not forget that paying in installments would probably be more acceptable to the selling club if we didn't have an awful reputation in the game for not paying financial obligations on time. We need to offer more money up front but probably can't. @Smiffy just gave me the perfect analogy. It’s like trying to get a mortgage with a **** credit rating. Bigger deposit required.

Maybe one of the sponsors could help. This is what happened apparently in the old days. I may be wrong but I think Ted Parsons reputedly did this. I'm sure Napster knows more about this.

I am expecting a typical Southend 'nearly but not quite' thanks to our 💩 show of a club
It would be a real shame, I know we can't get our first choice targets every time but imagine if we'd brought Mussa and Kelly in, would be a dream window. To get so close to both to miss out on them would be tough to take.

All I'm allowed to say is it wasn't a done deal for another club as suggested by Magnum. We are trying very hard and had a chance with his dad supporting blues. But we are up against a few clubs, 3 of them with it seems, money to burn. So we are not favourites to sign him. We can only hope.

Its sad when we cant compete with clubs like Solihull. I bet we would have never believed that a few years ago

I agree. I'm not overly fussed about mussa but Kelly going elsewhere is disappointing. We may have to opt using the loan market to bring in striker.
