With Cardwell on crutches and Murphy not yet able to train fully with the group it is inconceivable for us to go into the season without at least one additional striker in the squad.

I wonder if Akinola on a short term deal might be an option - he’s been more involved in pre-season when he’s not our player than he was last year when he was under contract!
Akinola is not a striker. He was poor in front of goal when we played him up too previously. Let him go and find someone with real quality. That’s what we need if we want to go up.

Sim scored 15 in 31 the last time he played consistently as a striker in the National League. Personally, I think there’s something about him and something different to the other strikers we have. If the terms are right for both the player and the club, I think it could be good business.

I'm not saying we should re-sign Akinola, but I agree that you need to look at his past before he came to us. You absolutely cannot judge him on 20/21. He was playing in an absolutely abysmal side with minimal service and a manager who was forced to set up in an ultra defensive manner. He did miss a few bad'ns, but hardly a surprise when his confidence had been eroded away.

Ironically I think he'd suit us more now. He's more of a wide forward really, the ball sticks to him like glue and he can make things happen if he gets the chance. If we're going to look at a potential 3-4-3, which you have to think we will given the signings of Mooney and Powell, then he'd fit into that quite well.

But I think times move on and the management feel a new start might be best for both parties. It is a pity though. If we'd have actually brought competent players in around him, I think he could have been a real player for us. He had three or four years, when he was in the Cowley side at Braintree and then at Barnet, when he was a very highly sought after player.

21 goals and 3 assists in 95 games for Barnet.
6 of the 15 goals he scored in 19/20 were penalties too so not great when he played as a centre forward during that season.

Regards to akinola he was pretty powder puff infront of goal, lacked any confidence or conviction when it came to shooting at goal. In his defence he isn't a striker. He's a wide man who likes to cut in. Personally I don't see any harm in akinola doing pre season with us with maybe 1 year deal in the offering if he does well. Currie probably still rates him.

Given the dross we've seen from 2019 to late 2021, what I'd give for a striker that scored 15 goals in a season, especially if he was a good penalty taker....
He was part of that dross. As I’ve said I think we can do much better and we need much better to get out of this league. He has had one semi good season in his whole career and people are getting over excited with his stats which when you consider nearly half were penalties they are not that great. If anything he would play on the edge of a front 3 but I wouldn’t put him in over any of the players that we currently have for them positions so would be a waste of wages. People whinge about us signing players who have been injured for ages but when was the last time he played? He has scored 42 goals in 188 games and only had 2 seasons with 10 goals or more and one of them was almost 10 years ago.

Dalby has a worse record at this level with 11 goals in 63 appearances over the past two seasons. Yet he was great last season and is one of our best players.

Stats don’t always show the full picture and a forward doesn’t need to have an insane goalscoring record to be a worthwhile member of the squad.

The ship has probably sailed with Akinola but not because of stats.

Dalby won't get a move he don't score enough to warrent a move, and is a bit selfish
I actually think the opposite to your last point. I think he's got great ability with his feet and links up play ever so well, but he simply doesn't shoot enough. He doesn't have that selfish, killer instinct in front of goal. He's always looking to offload the pass, sometimes an extra pass that isn't needed. Whereas Murphy shoots no matter what! If Dalby could find that streak in him, we'd have a hell of a player on our hands.

Daley will be gone if any EFL clubs come in for him,As I have said many times we after excepted we are a none league club,Any players will want to play in the EFL,Rather than play for us,that's why we need to get back A S P.Unless you pay thousands of pounds per week like Wrexham.

Don’t know where this Dalby talk has come back from, there is no active club looking at him that we know of.

But he wouldn't go on a free? Its not a question of whether an EFL club will come in take a punt on the cheap, but whether an EFL club is prepared to back him and what he brings by paying say 100k plus add ons. I don't think he is quite yet there for that to happen. He will be I think.

I think Kev would play cardwell over dalby when he’s fit so anything north of 100k with add ons we could take but only if we reinvest that money on another striker!!… I doubt Ron would …
