Seems like we trying to make our team solid which is good, but we need more fluency in the middle, players that can constantly attack, help score, and assist goals.... just seems we will come up short for the play offs, if this is going to be the actual team.. noor half decent, but we need to mix it up, esp if he gets injured... southend needs to keep the standards high, so more quality needs to be snapped up for the middle

I think like a few people have said we will probably leave it later into the season to get a couple of loan players in as and when. Kevin said he wanted to work with a smaller squad.

Let's be happy that we got some quality players in early and enjoy the season
I think loans don't really help to be fair, unless it's a year loan.... rather add quality and buy quality from the lower leagues, players that are hungry, also signing players on ft contracts they know as players and a squad where they stand... look at Dennis last year, he was playing at half a pace, come end of season, as he new he wasn't going to be here...

I’d suggest a CM (attacking) and a Striker as a minimum we’d be looking to bring in before KO. Perhaps a loanee or two if required, depending on who is available and whether we have any injuries that crop up in the upcoming friendlies, which is bound to happen (let’s hope not).
We mention attacking CM. In reality not sure that seems the case. If we play a 2 man CM we neither need an attacking or defensive CM. We need two very hard working box to box types. Mussa got described by som as an attacking CM but was he? He wasn't a player to get in the box rather get on the ball and create forward momentum. But his goalscoring record and aversion to getting in the box demonstrated he wasn't an attacking CM in the traditional sense.

We need I think probably 3 more up the spine of the team- CB, CM, CF. Those recruits will I think determine whether we are fighting for playoffs or automatics..

I think it depends. If they have been watched and thoroughly scouted the can be great (the Sheff guys because DC had worked with them - a big step to knowing what we will get). Without this its a bit of a lottery. Would rather they are off the whiteboard- if potential loans are on there great..

Quite possibly more natural, yes, and maybe with a better injury record. We shall see.
Ok we’ll have to agree to disagree there because Rhys Murphy for me is your archetypal centre forward. The sort of guy in your 5-a-side team that will always take on the shot because scoring is all he cares about.

I’ll agree on the injury front and I agree we need another striker but Murphy is a natural goalscorer IMO.

No you are right. Lopata, Neal and Brunt didn't help at all.

I think Harrison Neal and Lopata disprove that. Of course it’s preferable to own a player. But if the budget doesn’t allow for that, a high quality loan could be the difference between play offs and mid table.

Given your user name, you would think that, I guess!

All the lads on loan throughout the season played there part. Even Kenny Clark had his moments. Without any of them we’d have been worse off that’s for sure.
That's the difference. Loaning for the sake of loaning and taking a gamble OR using the market wisely to plug gaps or add value to the 11/squad.

You're misinterpreting what he is implying. He is not doubting the quality of said players, he is more eluding to the point that loans are unstable due to the fact the parent club can pick up the phone at any given point and recall them. Why he said 'season loan'.

Hence when Sheff utd recalled Lopata we went on a bad run until Gubbins & Clark settled, was a big disruption.

Don’t disagree with the point you make about the risk of loanees being recalled. But I can’t see where that was implied in the post I was responding to. He seemed to be more implying about the risk of less commitment from loaness, referring to Dennis’ drop in form.

Looking at the video of training on the beach who are Arrowsmith, Crowhurst and Reeve on Kev's sheet?
