One player I'd love for us to be after is James Olayinka, he'd be ideal as that attacking midfielder.
When I saw the Mussa highlights reel it reminded me of him in the way he would make that attacking turn in the middle of the park and run at the back line. Not sure whether he is a realistic target mind.

Not so sure myself. Had a long injury lay-off due to that dreadful tackle vs Grimsby, and hasn't done much since.

He hasn't kicked a ball in anger in men's 1st team football since early 2021.

His lack of games would be a worry but he’s a player who shone at a higher level and if he wasn’t injured probably wouldn’t be a viable target. My question is are we now in a position with the squad where we have enough reliable players and depth that we can take a gamble with a player who could be the X factor if he can overcome his injury woes but might contribute nothing?

I haven't got over the use of that phrase since Layton Ndukwu played for SUFC. Giving me flashbacks :Stunned:

As for gambling on a player, I would like to think SUFC are somewhat past that, at least at NL level anyway.

If Arsenal would loan Olayinka in, then fantastic. If they want a fee considering he's in the last year of his contract, no thank you.

The difference loaning players from top premier league teams, to championship ,Is top premier league youngsters are on thousands of pounds per week,Championship youngsters are on hundreds of pounds per week,We cannot afford to pay even half of a premiership young players wages,So we have to look at championship loans.

🤣

Sorry.

Nah, you can’t just play safe but the key is putting in solid foundations first. Far too often we’ve skipped this part and put all our eggs in the basket of just one player when that was player has injury or character red flags. If you take a gamble on a player you can’t be pinning your hopes on them. You have to think of them as a bonus if they work themselves into the starting line-up but they can’t be plan A.

This summer we’ve largely played safe so far: Miley, Taylor, Mooney are established good players at this level with miles still in their legs. Scott-Morriss comes from the division below but seems a fairly safe bet having played first team football for the last 5 years he’ll be battle hardened. Lomas has a bit more risk as he’s only one year of first team football but that seems a reasonable bet given how well Brackley and he did last year. This should give us a little more leeway to start rolling the dice a bit more - like we did with Wood last year.

If they’re sending him on loan to a NL side at his age and having had previous L2 stints his time there is over. In that instance I’d expect the deal to be about sell-ons rather than a transfer fee.

Looking at our squad now, I don't think we need much more realistically. We're pretty well-equipped in the full-back positions and in the centre of midfield. Another centre-back and a pacey forward would be good. There's always the loan market, which served us pretty well last season, as and when injuries occur.

Wealdstone have announced they have rejected an offer for Josh Umerah who has a year to run on his contract 16 goals last season so realistic target 6 figure fee though surely not
Would be a great signing. Strong, Quick, holds the ball up well. Was decent against us when we played Wealdstone at their place last season.

Don’t look good for any signings this week I think. Thanks to D+R p-ssing on our parade .
Most of the ITK have gone quite, has anyone heard any rumours!

Wish list to fill THAT midfield role:
- Max Kretzschmar - no club currently but hear he may be on his way to Aldershot.
- Giovanni McGregor - Dulwich but out of contract? Would probably be a bit of a punt.
- Stephen Duke-McKenna - at QPR and believe he has another year on contract but was excellent for Torquay last season.

Anyone else we may be looking at to add to the above?

If I understand the situation properly, there is no rush.

a) we can sign players throughout the season

b) there are loan players that might be attractive

c) there may be a trialist who comes & sparkles
But surely if you have a budget you use it? We can’t be nowhere near what we were paying out last season
