Mussa would have rejected them?! But he didn’t. Even Nottingham Forest offer more millions than Spurs in their bid for Spence, yet it’s the player refused to join any club, as he have 1 club he want to go, which is Spurs.
Mussa can’t reject Dagenham if Weymouth say ‘we’re only selling you to them now’. If he rejected Dagenham in that scenario he would be an NLS player with Weymouth next year.

He was under contract to Weymouth. He could only join a club that signs a transfer agreement with Weymouth - and one that Weymouth also sign.

I guess Weymouth held off signing anything with us and instead signed one with Dagenham.

How any of this could be seen as being Mussa’s fault is beyond me. The only beneficiaries of the change are Weymouth… pretty good place to start when looking for the culprits.

Either way it’s hard to take players choosing Dagenham over us. That’s not me be Billy big boots, but facts are historically we have been and still are a bigger club arguably with a better chance of promotion. However, over the past few seasons Daggers have clearly built a decent side, 8~0 in aggregate against us last season and are in a better place financially So if able to pay more for or offer more to players then that’s where we are at. As I said earlier we’ve made some cracking siginings so far and trust the management that 2 or 3 more will follow whether Mussa is one or not
Whilst that's all true given we've been in a nosedive for years until the amigos arrived so I can understand why players might prefer Dagenham to us even if they're a smaller club. Yes we're on the right path now but if you were looking to move jobs and a company with a history of problems told you that the last 6 months have been good and they've turned a corner would you take their word for it? Even as a fan I'm still a bit worried that whilst we seem to have finally sorted ourselves out on the pitch and got a proper CEO in there's still a risk Ron runs out of money again.

Why is that? Maybe D&R upped their offer by £200 every week to mussa, and he thought that’s now £10k a year more than we are offering. He has no affinity with either club.

The suggestion is that the fee and wages were identical, but Daggers offered more add ons. Speculation all around, but I’d be surprised to find everyone was happy but Mussa - after training with us for a couple of days - decided that the delights of Dagenham‘s stadium and training facilities, chances of promotion and another £100 a week (or similar) would have turned his head. His career to date doesn’t really resemble that of a classic football mercenary.

The point being repeatedly overlooked, and is not unimportant, is we were *told* he had signed for us. Many of the arguments must be assuming this is not true and it may be that indeed it isn’t. I certainly don’t know.

Wonder if this will see us step up a pursuit of Max Kretzschmar? I understand we were interested in him earlier in the summer.

With regards to Mussa, it's not hard to take him moving to another club. As I mentioned earlier, the other club may consider him a more integral signing than we do, and made him an offer to match, while we might at the moment see a prolific striker as a more important target, and are putting more of our eggs in that basket.

All fun and games of pre-season innit.

We've had a cracking window so far, let's hope it continues.

Yeah that true I reckon we may step up interest for Max if Mussa does defo go up the road

That's exactly it. Daggers were in for him in January. They may therefore see him as integral as you say. We already have Husin and Bridge that can play that creative, in the hole, type of player.

I'm disappointed but it's not the end of the world. I'd have a bigger problem had we lost Mooney to another club! Losing out on his stats to someone else would have hurt.

Slightly odd if he was training with us already that he would go somewehre else.

All this would prove to me is that he was never dedicated to the cause and the plan we now have in place. Better to find that out now rather than 20 games into the season when the going gets tough.

Move on to the next target.

I can assure you there is a longer list than just Max Kretzschmar and Omar Mussa.
Oh I’m 100% sure of it to Which is great to hear . I’m Just glad we’re taking our time on targets and got a proper process this times around instead of just saying yes like it seemed previously.

Anyone any ideas on this striker we’re after? It’s not Kelly, McCullum, Cheek or Rutherford we’re led to believe (although you wouldn’t rule anything out after the Mussa situation!).

So who is it?

I‘ll start by saying this is as thin and one-dimensional an analysis as it’s possible to do. Simply looking at who scored a decent amount at NL, NLS, and NLN last year as a good place to start.

Looking at NLN and NLS goalscorers last year, most have moved this Summer. A few others are over 30 so could be targets but I sense we’re looking for someone younger.

I’ve omitted any that have already moved clubs this Summer, got promoted from the NL last year or are with the likes of Wrexham.

Looking at attributes to see who might be the best fit for what we need will take a bit longer but here are a couple of possibles:

  1. Joe Iaciofano, Oxford City. 23 years old, 22 goals in NLS last year;
  2. Joan Luque, Maidstone. 30 years old, 20 goals in NLS last year in 33 games (but 0 in 10 for Weymouth in NL also last season);
  3. Jack Barham, Maidstone. 26 years old, 18 goals in 27 games last season. No particular acheivements before then however;
  4. Nick Haughton, AFC Fylde. 27 years old, 26 goals in 41 games last season - but no record to speak of at all before then.
  5. Glen Taylor, Spennymoor. 32 and no great record but did score 25 in 42 last year;
  6. Ruben Rodrigues, Notts County. 25 years old, 18 goals in 40 games last year - and a strong record in earlier years; or
  7. Andrew Dallas, Solihull. 22 years old, 19 goals in 43 games last year.

I’d choose Rodrigues from the list, but Iaciofano and Dallas also look decent.

Who confirmed it not to be Michael Cheek?

I think someone confirmed it was definitely someone with experience of this league, could be wrong.

I’m pretty sure someone (who I took to be relatively reliable) said it a few pages back - but then again they may have been misled, or just not ITK at all, or things have changed… so who knows?

It’s not hard to take at all, they’re not rivals and they’re just another club in the National League, couldn’t care less if they get players over us.
The point I was making is historically in the past we wouldn’t be competing with or losing players to Dagenham. I don’t see what wrong with saying that. I said in my comment that they are in a better financial position to us so naturally they are maybe more attractive, but that hasn’t been the case previously I would say

Obviously it's frustrating to lose any prospective signing at the last minute but I concur, I'm no more disappointed that he signed for Dagenham than if he had signed for Notts County or (say) Torquay.

The way some posters on SZ get so irritated by Dagenham and the mere suggestion that their fans see us as rivals does make it appear that in these people's minds there is indeed a rivalry. It's all very reminiscent of people's attitudes to Borient when we first started playing them regularly again in the late 90s.
I don’t see it as a rivalry thing at all. Never seen them as a rival in the past and certainly don’t now. It’s more to do with the size of the club and it’s pulling power
