SUFC closing in on League 1 striker

[b said:
Quote[/b] ]Harsh - very, very, very harsh. Willock's a decent player, sure he's not in the same league as Eastwood or Ricketts but put it this way I'd much rather have him as a back-up than Lee Steele, (god forbid) Matt Harrold and even Wayne Gray.

Have you seen Brentford Vs Swansea play-off 2nd Leg mate? I cannot believe what I was watching, he so ******g useless, he an Conference standard player at best. I rather have good conference striker than Willock!

Quote[/b] (lucus @ July 11 2006,11:03)]hmmm someone mentioned Kiegan Parker on here earlier. An established league one player, who Tilly was singing his praises when we played Blackpool at their place. Could fit the bill? I would imagine Tilly is looking for a pacey striker to replace Gray, as that's probably the attribute our strike force lacks the most right now.
Is he not more of a winger though?
Although possibly Parker might have played in the same U19 Scotland team as Stevie Hammell.
I'm sure with his pace and trickery he can play on the wing, but whenever I have seen him play he has started upfront. The fact he is adaptable to more than one position would make him even more appealing to Tilly.

Ok! Ok! some of you have point that I was bit harsh on some 3rd rate players, the fact we cannot afford to waste £1000 or £3000 a week wages on an doofer who cannot hack it in Championship.

I still think Lloyd Owusu is a distinct possibility - Don't forget we were after him this time last year, but he signed a 2-year deal with Brentford instead. Change of manager there and Leroy's just signed 2 strikers!

Yeah, ok then.
Whlist I hate Lee Steele for his Orient & Brighton connections it would give me great delight to get him just to see J-S crying into his cornflakes.
Why would I be crying that you'd signed a 33 year-old sicknote benchwarmer?

ps. It's Crunchy Nut Cornflakes for me

Could also be keen for a move South as he is meant to be playing hide the sausage with the stunner that is Jade Goody.

More bollox from the football rumours site...

Leicester City are set to replicate local rivals Coventry City's bid for promotion. Coventry's recent 'Operation Premiership' has led to 6 players joining the club. Leicester have just finished talks with Alliance and Leicester and they have confirmed a sponsporship deal for the next three years. With this Rob Kelly has been given £4 million to spend.

His targets are set to be
Nicklas Bendter on loan from Arsenal. Recent reserve outings last season caught the eye and Ryan Smith has recommend the club to Bendter.
Freddy Eastwood from Southend. 1 million and Elvis Hammond the other way.
Kevin Nicholls from Luton. 500k
Dan Harding from Leeds. 250k
Andy Reid from Spurs for a season loan

We'd be all shook up if that happened.

And more...

leon knight will NOT sign for swindon, this is after interest from 3 championship clubs barnsley, southend, ipswich and two league 1 clubs doncaster and brentford.

Blimey, there's been some rubbish on here...

Hawley - why would he be any more likely to sign for us than Freddy was likely to sign for Luton last year...?

Graham - tore us to shreds when he was at Torquay, would be delighted to see him at the Hall.

Abbott - quality, and just because Peter Jackson can't get the best out of him, that means nothing.

Parker - would be a very interesting acquisition. The Tilly & Brush magic would work wonders with him.

The Swansea players - if you were Kenny Jackett, why would you get rid of any of Fallon, Knight or Trundle? Surely you'd hold on to all three?

Owusu / Harris / anyone from Orient - surely we can do better (no offence, Jonny)?

Harrold - I have my doubts, but then if Tilson thinks he's the bees-knees, that's good enough for me.

* * *

Surely, though, the one thing that the new striker must have in abundance is pace. That's what we lost when Wayne Gray signed for Yeovil, so that's what we must acquire in a new signing. Freddy's no slouch, but he's not blessed with Gray's scorching pace. Ricketts has got weight to shift before he gets thought of as a speedster.

So, on that basis, Parker might be the best shout of the lot. Thoughts?

Owusu - maybe, but only as a benchwarmer.
I would of thought Parker the more likely of the 2 (the other being Abbott), as Abbott you could say is in the same mould as Ricketts (plus he would probably cost around 200k which I'm not sure the club would be willing to spend), whereas Parker would be the ideal upgrade to Gray. Bags of pace, trickery and movement. Workrate is second to none also.

Owusu too similar to Ricketts and too old. Last year we had a good blend of different type of striker, surely Tilly is looking for the same again. Would be well chuffed with either Abbott or Parker tho Parker loses points for sleeping with Jade "Miss Piggy" Goody.

Seems harsh judging him on that one game. He didn't set the world alight but he wasn't shocking either and he wouldn't have been in the team that day unless he had impressed Allen in some way in the rest of the season.

I have doubts over his finishing but agree with AD that as a third choice striker he would be able to offer more than Gray (most games anyway), Steele (comfortably) and Harrold (porbably).

One thing he certainly has is pace and he likes to play a very direct style, something that may complement Freddy or Ricketts.

None taken. We've got four or five quality players; none of whom play up front.

Actually, it looks like we've just lost the biggest jewel in our little crown... Ho hum

Ahh, Mr. Zakuani is heading west, it would seem... Sounds like quite a prospect!

So, who are the quality players; and how did Glyn Garner get on last season? Always thought he was a good'un when he was with the Shakers...
