Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 3-4 Charlton Athletic

On the subject of the North Bank (as above) am assuming we have to wait until next season to claim it back?
There's no where else for away fans, unless you split North down the middle and claim half. Although I doubt that will work for segregation purposes, or am I missing something?

Last time we had the NB we just had some netting over seats for segregation

As echoed, absolutely fantastic cup tie! One of the best games at the hall in recent years, proper football, proper atmosphere and we were definitely the better team.

Was walking out in front of a few Charlton fans and overheard them saying the exact same how they were lucky and that we were the better side.

One thing I will say, in recent wake of all the social media storm, I DID NOT like how Kev treated Collin at the end.

It was a mistake, I get it, we all get annoyed, but you put your arm around the lad (like one of the Charlton staff did at the end ) and tell him to keep his head up. The constant glares and shakes of the head, and then patting every player off the pitch apart from Collin, I didn’t like that one bit. We’ve all said recently his confidence is at a low.

If I was misreading it, fair enough, but just from what I saw.

Anyways, back to the league and hopefully crack on.

Ralphy commented how incredible the atmosphere was after the game, how the fans played a massive part today, and how it helped the lads. If we maintain a good attendance for all our games and provide support like that every week, we play our part in getting the team out of this league. Keep getting behind them and make it happen every week! Well done fellow Shrimpers, great performance in the stands! 👏 👏 👏

If this happened that’s really poor man management from Kev IMO. Collin’s confidence is low already, that’s hardly going to help! I can’t say I saw this, but someone else has mentioned the same.

Gutted we lost but massively proud of the team, the fans and the club. I’m still sitting here wondering how we actually lost that game. The BBC stats had us ahead on all stats apart from goals scored. Don’t think the players could have given anymore and they looked devastated at the end. If that had finished 3-3 as a league game we’d be gutted. To be gutted having gone toe to toe with a L1 team shows how far this team have come in recent weeks. The fight and spirit is back, RH was bouncing and the game gave us everything a cup tie should. We can be disappointed in the goal we conceded but be proud of the fight and resilience we showed to come back from 2-0 and 3-2 down. We at least deserved to take it to penalties. But we have shown enough in the last 5 or 6 games to suggest we can have a real good go at the league. Glad we don’t have a game this week as the players would have struggled to be fit. They now have a full week to prepare for next week, but play like that and teams will find it hard to match us.

Collin- 5- hate to be critical but have to question him for goals 3&4. Would be surprised if Zack isn’t back next week.
Gus- 6.5- worked his socks off and unlucky not to score with a header that I think was blocked by one of our players
Crowther -6.5- did well in the air but a few shaky moments on the ground but dealt ok with the huge number 11
Taylor- 7- did what HT does and maybe lucky not to get sent off for handball
Ralph - 6.5 - again dealt well in the air and solid on the ground
Husin -7- worked tiredlessly and his best game in weeks. Back to his best
Coker - 7- also worked hard and rewarded with his deflected goal
Morton- 7.5- pick of the midfield and gutted when he went off as he was helping the team move forward with his progressive passing
Bridge - 7- best game this season and took his penalty well. Hope leaving him on as they did when clearly struggling doesn’t have long term issues
Bonne -6- worked hard and led the line ok but was tough against some big lads at the back
Pepple - 8- my motm and at times ran them ragged. Really does look a real player

Moncur - 6- saw plenty of the ball, did little with it
Walker- 6.5- showed some nice touches and his shot defected for the goal
Waldron- 7- thought he looked sharp when he came on, linked well with Walker and won plenty of headers. Minutes on the pitch will do him good
Miley-6.5- came on for Morton and obvs plays a different way, but again minutes in the legs important
Keenan- 6.5- ran around and worked hard but with little impact

Fans- 10/10, best atmosphere this season

So onto next week and Yeovil. Will be another tough game but one we should go into full of confidence despite the result today

Bim Pepple - what a performance.
Outstanding.
Kept the Charlton defenders very busy with his excellent hold up play and movement.
Taylor was very assured at the back, only blip was the dodgy header that led to their winner.
That goal was NOT Collins fault.

Proud to be a shrimper today, atmosphere buzzing and a great game of football!

I had to rely on the SZ for my updates on the action today. Does anyone know if a full replay of the match will be available somewhere/sometime or will I have to put up with the hilights?

Watching the 4th goal back, a commanding keeper would have had that situation under control. Taylor knowing we have a dodgy keeper is put into a position of trying to header it. Could collin have communicated? Even after the header I feel collin has got himself to blame for letting the forward turn and shoot and not being in the right position.

I don't know if any of the other goals were his fault/savable

Thought all 4 goals were soft

Leaburn reminds me of his dad! I'm sure his dad used to score against us all the time

Their winning goal was clearly Taylor's fault. What did he think he was doing? His header was weak and straight into the path of the Charlton striker. Collin had no chance.
Collin hesitated as he did numerous times. Think Taylor’s header was short and he isn’t blameless but Collin should be commanding his area. Think he has lost confidence and the back line have in him. Thought the back 5 looked more assured last week and would be surprised if Zack doesn’t start next week.
