Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 3-4 Charlton Athletic

What I find odd is that the "F.A. Cup is a jewel" etcetera (add any of the usual phrases) ............

........... and what we have in this country & with this competition is tradition & history in bucket loads - no other country or competition can get anywhere close - something to be proud of, something to be celebrated, something to be nurtured and continued .............

............. and yet the F.A. seems set on chucking that all away.

@Rattus Norvegicus That's unfortunately because the Premiersh!te is flooded with mercenary foreign players and managers who have no understanding or interest in the traditions and history of the greatest cup competition in the world.

And The FA kowtow to them sh!t scared that the 'big 6' etc., will bugger off to a revived European Super League.

As you say...

i for one would be so happy if the so called big 6 buggered off and formed a super league.and im off the opinion many others would be happy for that too. Perhaps someone should start a poll and lets see what kind off vote we would get on that,Even better if it was a poll for all in the UK to vote on .

Well, what a game that was! Had goosebumps walking to the game for the first time in a while. Was a great occasion.

I feel like I need to address some of the Collin comments on here. Now I have expressed on here for a while now that I do not see Collin as a number 1 keeper (yet) due to his inexperience and, at times, naivety in his decision making. I also conceded last year he made huge strides forward and more than deserved his YPOTY award (I even voted for him).

But why do Southend fans feel the need to destroy our young keepers with direct abuse online and at games? It seems to be a common theme. Ted Smith was first, a top lad, who quit the game completely. Next was Harry Seaden, another top lad, whose confidence was shot to pieces when he was playing in arguably the worst Southend side in history. Both of these lads played for England at youth level. That’s crazy for a small club like ours.

Now Collin, not at that level but has played more games than either of the others. Should be a local hero, picked up from a local college and thrown into first team action. As I said above, I am not convinced he is ready yet but let’s give the lad a break. At 21 he is doing as good a job as could be expected.

Considered opinions are one thing. Abuse is another. Lets get behind all of our players.

Anyway. Rant over.

I put this down to the fault of Maher and Co s failure to replace Morris with another experienced keeper who has the ability to guide Collin and allow him to earn the right to be #1 right from the beginning off the season .,Collin had no competition for his place that to me is a big mistake.

Who's Morris ?

@Thundersley Blue Don't you remember Colin Morris (1976 - 79)?

@stewart I agree I don't know why they never replaced Morris either. Crazy really when you think we went out and bought Derek Spence (who incidentally at that time "is an International") Centre Forward, practically the next week.

However, I do think it's a bit of a stretch to blame Maher and Co!

Glenn Morris???
